my gp wont retest me two years later, says there is no need. is this right?

hello everyone,
i just had a question for you here, those of you that understand this condition. i am not diagnosed, i had a test two years ago and t3/4 normal. i still have symptoms of disorder and both my sisters have it. my gp wont test me again as he says it wouldn't of changed.

is this correct? my nhs doctor isn't the best.

thyroid stimulating hormone -- 2.98 (range 0.27 -4.92)
free T3 --4.5 (range 3.1 -6.8)
Free thyroxine --15.3 (range 12.0-22.0)

Dear waterbee,

Your TSH is optimal ( based on my own personal experience), have you ever been tested for the thyroid antibodies?
there are three of them; TGab, antiTPOab and TSI, try to convince your doctor to order them for you and get tested for these.

The first two are the cause for Hashimoto's disease, which can cause both hypo and hyper, there is no cure for hashi but if the resulting hypo/hyper is treated then you should be in remission.

The last one causes hyper(suppressed TSH), and the treatment for hyper is different from that of hypo.

Some times it can take TSH a while to show abnormalities even when the antibodies are positive.

thank you so much for your help. one last question, would the TGab, antiTPOab and TSI be considered an autoimmune blood screen?

These are antibodies, if either TGab or antiTPOab are positive then you have an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's disease and the TSI causes the autoimmune disease called Graves.

did as you asked. my results are ---

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies 6.5 (range 0--34)

does this mean i have one of those? my doctor cant talk to me until next week.

Dear waterbee ,

If you wrote the results correctly then 6.5 is within normal range if it is [0-34] , which means that you are negative for this test also!
