High ALT/AST--Side Effects of synthroid?

Hi, my ALT/AST level is slightly elevated, I am wondering if it is side effects of synthroid

Do you have the same problem? How to lower their levels,Did the drug damage some kind of liver function?

Hyperthyroidism can cause the liver enzymes to be elevated and so if you are over medicated with synthroid then yes it can cause such a thing !

Hi, Hashi,

You know my TSH used to be 4.5 or 3.0 when the liver enzymes is elevated, but it's not over medicated, right?

Neither 3 nor 4.5 is considered hyper, but it depends on how much time have you been on the same dose before performing those blood tests !?

Whether hypO can cause the liver enzymes to be elevated I do not know, you might want to ask your Doctor !

I found this link that states elevated liver enzymes as a possible symptom of hypo, take a look at it !

Why does your TSH fluctuates so much ?

If the cause for them being elevated is hypo/er then once you are euthyroid then they are supposed to normalized but if it is an unrelated problem then you need to address it, by consulting with a specialist !
