4 years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Since the onset of my symptoms my internist has always been very suspicious of hypothyroidism. I've gone to an Endo and most of my tests were normal/inconclusive. My TSH gets tested anywhere from 1 - 5 times a year depending on symptoms I'm experiencing. However, my TSH is always normal. The last time it was tested in October it was 1.55. It seems to be steadily but slowly dipping lower and lower. However, I've been having symptoms that keep coming on and the Dr's (internist, cardiologist and allergist) are all kind of scratching their heads.
My heart rate has always been low (60 or under) but has gotten even lower. I have experienced palpitations (PVCs - bigeminy and trigeminy). I have had issues with hoarseness to the extent of needing voice therapy. I have burning mouth symptoms and they are not allergy related. I was believing that these were all separate issues until I began losing a tremendous amount of hair the last 2 weeks. We are talking clumps of hair coming out every day. Thankfully I have thick full hair, but I've never lost this much hair. Now I'm beginning to think that everything is related. I've noticed more tightness in my chest than usual with the Fibro and just increased discomfort in the throat area.
I can't figure out how to press my Dr. to examine my thyroid even further. She's always open to testing what I ask for, but I don't know what to ask for. Are there more tests to be done? This last round we didn't test my T3 or T4, just TSH. In the past I have had all the thyroid levels tested and in some instances my T3 was high indicating overactive thyroid but the TSH was normal. I have gone through periods of not being able to lose any weight to periods like now where I have no appetite and have to force myself to eat and subsequently am losing weight. Overall, things just feel way out wack even for having Fibro. I'm a 28 year old female.
I'd appreciate any help/suggestions. Thanks!
