Hi there everyone,

I'm new to this potential problems with my thyroid gland and I was just wondering a couple of things. Can your hormone levels fluctuate so radically that they are often missed and appear in range when diagnostics are done? Also, are there other indicators other than the usual thyroid gland bloods? For eg... are cortisol levels also out of range? Are other bloods done routinely along with thyroid studies?

Hi Buzz,

There's a lot of disagreement over the value of the TSH test. There are a lot of people who
have normal TSH levels, but still suffer hypothyroid symptoms. In fact, check the thread I
wrote about Hypothyroidism Type 2. Dr. Starr, who wrote a book of the same name, believes
there is a type 2 form of hypothyroidism that is a dysfunction on the cellular level, and
people who suffer from it have normal thyroid hormone levels. He also says that a lot of
patients can have adrenal fatigue along with thyroid dysfunction and that needs to also
be treated.
