Waking up in 5 hrs automatically while on synthyroid..

I was supplementing 50mcg of synthroid every night. At the approx 2 week mark i noticed that i was waking up automatically within 5 hrs of sleep. This was happening consistently and i stopped taking it. It has since stopped happening.

The doc mentioned that this meant you had more than adequate thyroid in your body. Has anyone here had similar effects of taking thyroid supplementation. Was this because of cortisol increase in the body?

It usually takes about six weeks for blood levels of Synthroid to stabilize when medication is started, so it would be unusual to see definite side effects to the hormone in two weeks. I would hope you doctor is following up with blood tests about every three months to see what is going on with your thyroid over time.

Synthroid did not agree with me at all! I felt worse, lost more hair etc. Went off of it (gradually, I hadn't been on it tooo long) and went on a natural product prescribed by my naturopath and feel much better. My last full thyroid panel test was really good.......everything has improved immensely. TSH, free T3 and T4 and antibodies.
