My wife has Hashimoto's. Recently, after having word finding problems Alzheimer's testing was done. She is in her late 50's. The tests were inconclusive. That sent us to Mayo which diagnosed as Primary Progressive Aphasia - non affluent - non Alzheimer's. The doctors admittedly state they do not know much regarding cause of this, it is rare, and she is not presenting as a typical case for PPA. They do state there is no cure and it is progressive to the point that she may loose all speech.
I believe that Hashimoto's may be a cause. She is taking Synthroid 25 mcg. My reading indicates that a natural supplement that addresses T3 as well as T4 might be preferred. I am looking for more information from others to address the thyroid problem, including MDs in the Houston area that are open to T3 supplements for potential treatment.
