Is it unusual to feel feverish with UC? I often feel like I have a low grade fever, specifacally when I'm bleeding.

Last time I was flaring I ran a low grade fever constantly. I didn't think anything of it at the time but looking back it was definitely a part of my flare. I am not sure of the reason though...hopefully someone else can chime in.

No, it's not unusual-- it's an immune system response related to the degree of inflammation in your colon. I generally get chills when flaring. Be sure to keep yourself hydrated. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

I am experiencing very high fever with flare and was told that fever and UC were uncommon unless there was perforation or toxicity.  I have had left side disease for 24 years and have never had a fever until this last month..now I can't seem to shake the fever and the docs are telling me I have a virus.

It makes me feel better to know that others have experienced fever with active flares.  Now i won't feel like I have to run to the ER to be looked at for toxic megacolon every time i spike a fever.

BTW, is there a way to permanently add the meds used and your condition hx.....like  signature?  Many of you seem to have a line drawn below your posting and then the med/bio.

High fever with UC means something else is going on....

A viral infection can be serious and still has to be determined...and treated.

I've never had a high fever with UC flares. I do have low-grade fevers often however...up a degree or so (but my normal temp is about 96.9. Hormonal? or UC meds? or PSC or PSC med? an attempt to become normal?lol! don't know, but it's usually in the evening for an hour or two. The doctors aren't concerned at this time.

Is your doc a GI? Are you having nausea as well? Has the doc done more comprehensive blood tests?

To create a signature....go through "Control Panel" on the blue menu bar where you log-in.

Click into "Edit Panel", scroll down to "Signature". It has to be limited to 10 lines (finished copy) which includes spacing.
If you edit it...it will only be changed in the postings you've done/changed afterward.

I used to get low grade fever all the time when I was first diagnosed. But I agree that a high fever - usually anything over 100 - is typical for a virus/illness etc. and you should see a doctor for it.

I often have a low grade fever. My Gi said to call if it goes over 100. Though while on higher doses of pred I would spike a 101 fever several times a day for ten minutes or so.

Yup - low grade fever for me is common. Definitely consult with a doc if you're worried or it is a sustained fever above 100 degrees F.
