I stopped smoking 3 1/2 years ago and within two weeks developed my first UC symptoms (or I always had it and the cigarettes were treating it). I'm at the end of my rope now since I've tried practically everything but the big guns and can't get into remission for more than a month at a time--I'm seriously considering going back to smoking. How many cigarettes do you need to treat this thing? I'd hate to have to go back to my previous 3/4 a pack a day. I just figure with all the side effects from humira or remicade and the dangerous risks, I don't know which is worse, that or smoking, especially since there's no guarantee those drugs will work for very long like the others haven't.
After the 4th cig my cramping was gone, by the next day all bleeding had stopped, but I did make two trips to the restroom. A noticeable drop (going 6+ prior) By the 3rd day all symptoms were gone. A half pack per day at that time, but now I am back to my 1 pack a day as it has been during my previous smoking. I do not feel guilty at all. If someone says something, I just tell them I am taking my medication. You ought to see their expressions. I was quit 3 years minus 8 days. I have quit for a 1 year and one time for 10 years. At 61, I know I will leave this world by some illness or accident, so what the heck. I figure at best not more than 19 years plus or minus a couple. That is when most of my relatives have died. Life is too good to worry about
medications. One thing about
smoking... I don't forget to light up.
