ILLINOS DMV HELP get a LAW passed

Looking for everyone to write Illinois General Assembly to pass a law. When Ulcertive Colits acts up it makes me a prison of my home. Currently I am trying to get a Handicapp Placard in Illinois! But have run accross a huge road blocks. The form from the Sec. of State has 7 things to qualify you and this diease is left out. People who review this don't know what it is like to try and get to a bathroom fast. Please take the time to write our state senators and get the law passed. I am not going to stop until we get some assitance. This is a permanent illiness that we have to learn to live with. I am going to write to anyone who will listen. The papers, news, oprah etc...... We need to be heard. confused

It might appeal to them more if it was something that you swore to only use when necessary... as opposed to always taking the handi-capable spot. People with broken legs can get temporary parking passes maybe there would be a way to get them during flares. Good luck!!

Thanks for your input! You bring up a good point only when needed. Just getting someone to understand this Disease is hard. If you would pass the word and get everyone you know to vote. I am not going to stop. Thanks again!!!

I am not ready to label myself as handicapped for having UC. Given that there are a limited number of handicapped spots, these should be reserved for those who have it much worse.....amputees, the elderly, diabetics, stroke victims etc, etc....I think that while this is a horrible disease, I am really thankful that I don't have any of the thousand diseases and health issues which are way worse.

Just an FYI I am very active and run about 5 miles a day when I can. I am also a diebetic which I have completely under control when my UC is not acting up. Getting to a bathroom right a way sucks. People with heart conditions can get this parking! If you are suffering from heart conditions the best thing they tell you is WALKING!!!!!!!!! Now is that really fair that someone from the state level thinks that UC is no  big deal. I would like for them to have it for just one day.  Or even better yet one of their family members to have an accident in their CAR!  Hmmmmmmmmm I bet they do something then! Lets see if they leave to even go to the bank! Thank you for your feed back.

For times when flaring, every step counts!!! There are times when it has been CLOSE at home - and I have the BEST parking there. I've been wondering about a HC tag for those times. Usually, I don't mind walking those steps to the store and on a nice day, will park further away just for the walk.

Something to think about - how often do you see most of the HC spots empty? I see most of them empty most of the time... However, if it comes down to parking in an HC spot or having an accicent in my pants, I'll park illegally in that spot and explain myself later.

I agree with the accident at home, been there done that! Forgot to mention that they have not ruled out having MS. Truely I don't care about the walking part of that as much as I do with the UC. Getting to a bathroom is all that is on my mind every where I go. Right now I am living like a prisoner and depend on others. This gets old quick. I just want some type of my quility of life back to do things on my own. Thank you for your feed back. :-)

THANK YOU EVERY ONE FOR VOTING!!!!!!!!!! Please have your friends and family do the same. The more fire I have the better chance I will stand getting a law passed. I think the law should be nationwide. PLEASE HELP US GET SOME HELP WITH THIS ISSUE! THANK YOU TO ALL, lets educate the world. I have written to oprah and Dr. OZ of the Oprah show. Asking for them to make UC a topic. I ask that you do the same. No one seems to know what we go through when the flare ups happen. You can't even plan a vacation. This is not fair to my family. All that I ask is we use our own judgement if we need parking close to a bathroom. I am a very active person and believe in excercise. I have lost over 286 pounds, the last thing I want to do is gain that weight back. So I ask PLEASE make us heard! It is going to take some star to suffer this and it will be talked about. Who is to say that there is not one out there right now and afraid to come forward with this monster disase that there is no cure for! Sick of the jokes people make about this. It will take someone they know and you watch how they will react. I am not going to back down, we have rights too.  Thank you all.  PLEASE SPEAK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!! eyes

I have emailed both Oprah Winfrey and Montel Williams numerous times to see if they will get the topic of IBD on their shows. So far, I've never heard anything from them. But we can keep trying!

I think if we flood their mail boxed or blow up their fax machines. We are going to be heard one way or another. Can you think of anyone else we can contact? I too will contact Montel.

I agree with Donna that this disease needs to be discussed openly in the media; people need to know how this disease affects us. It's more than just getting a handicap license plate, it's more about creating and awareness of the condition and hopefully create an more established drive for a cure.
