Started today, one 50mg tablet after breakfast until blood test results for enzymes.
I couldn't believe when I read the side effects....they're listed all these cancers under COMMON side effects?! I must admit, I'm kind of concerned about this! Anyone share their thoughts/information on this?

I of course brought those concerns to my dr as well. I believe my dr. told me my chances were MUCH higher that I would get cancer from my colon being constantly inflamed before I would ever get cancer from Imuran.

I believe the doses we take for colitis are very low in comparison to the doses the inserts talk about as causing cancer. Cancer is certainly not a "common" side effect.

My doctor told me not to expect anything to happen..but if anything, I might be tired or naseous. I wasnt either of those..

I really would not worry if I were you. I know people who have been on it for decades with no problems at all.

I could be wrong here....but they are talking about taking Imuran in super high doses. For example those that use it for organ transplants.

Oh and just an FYI. I used to take Imuran in the mornings but it made me nauseous all day. Now I take it before bed.

Yes, Tab is right. Those warnings are for high doses and at the doses we take, the risk of cancer is VERY low.

Cheers. I was aware of the risk just from having read about it, but the consultant never mentioned it at all. You can imagine my face when I read the leaflet!

Oh no doubt!

My GI warned me of the low risk of lymphomas before I started so I was warned ahead of time. Your consultant should of mentioned it to you.
