I have not been to this message board before. I feel desparate. I had a colonoscopy 6 weeks ago. The dr said my right side colon was completely closed and it acted like an autoinmune disease. He gave me medicine that has not helped. I bought a juicer- all liguid diet, and a heating pad, still no help. This has been going on for 6 months. What next?/ I really need some input on this, because nothing is helping me. My right side feels like a ball of fire- my ribs are even sore. Cricket PLEASE, can anyone advise anything that may help the pain?

Hi and Welcome to HealingWell, Have you seen a GI-doctor yet? And if the pain is real bad I would go to the ER asap.

Hey Cricket and welcome! I gave your post a title. Same questions as above.....do you see a GI doctor? What medicine were you given?

My GI dr has me on Robinol 2mg ,5 x per day. and Mobic that is an antiinflamatory med. My appointment with him is  this Friday. I had some old pain pills, sometimes I take that, but they are not very strong. It does not get rid of the pain 100%- but it helps some. At first I thought the Liquids would work, so I bought the "Hallelujah Diet book". With this, I get all my vitamins and food as juice. I don't know how to put this... I have read that most people go the bathroom alot. It is the opposite with me. I am not sure how auto-imune disease works. Dr said my rt side colon is attacking itself and has shut down. quote the dr ,"slammed shut". I thought someone might know something that would help the pain. Thank you for your input !!

First, I think your doctor has overstated things. If, in fact, your colon was "slammed shut" then you would be in for emergency surgery because nothing would get through at all. Second, I agree you need to see a GI to know the true diagnosis so they can start you on the proper medication. If he / she used the term "attacking itself" that's the sign of an autoimmune disease. Any autoimmune disease is one where the body starts to attach its own organs. There are dozens of autoimmune diseases. Besides UC, I also have Graves Disease (in remission). Self medicating is not the right approach. Some medications (even over the counter) can make things worse for you in your condition. If you are bleeding, do not take anything with aspirin. My GI won't let me take any Advil or ibuprophin medication since it can start a flare. If you have Chrones or Colitis, you can get treatment. If you've been dealing with this for six months, then the right treatment will help you heal. Ask your GI to explain what you have in detail, and what you need to do now with your "new life". Judy

Cricket, I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. You absolutely need to see a gastroenterologist right away. While your doctor is trying to help you, the medications you're on are not the best for anyone with IBD (autoimmune colon disease.)

Robinol is an anti-spasmodic drug. If you have Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis, it may not be the best for you, as it frequently causes constipation.

Mobic is an NSAID. This is the same family of drugs as aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen and others. This class of drugs is not usually prescribed for IBD sufferers because it can cause gastric bleeding.

Even with the pain, I'd recommend you restrict yourself to Tylenol for now. Also, if the old pain medication you're taking has an NSAID in it (many do) you may be overdosing yourself. Some of our members have reported that a warm heating pad on their abdomen helps the pain.

Please do call your doctor and ask for a recommendation for a GI, or find one on your own. If not properly treated, your condition could get much worse. And I'm afraid the meds your doctor prescribed may not be making things any better for you.
