I need to Poop, but I can't !!! AAAH

so i keep getting the urgency to go poop, but when i get to the toilet i cant. nothing but gas, a little blood, and slimy liquids. and it hurts. i know i have to go, but i cant.

does this happen to anyone else?

where the hell is this poop that needs to come out? am i clogging myself up?

man this is gross and aggravating mad

Doodledoo, that feeling of urgency with nothing passing is a symptom of rectal inflammation, and a classic UC symptom. The medical name for it is tenesmus. Usually you really don't need to go, it's just that anything - blood, mucus, stool - triggers that response from the inflamed area. Sometimes hot sitz baths can help temporarily.

If you're not on rectal meds, this would be a good thing to discuss with your GI. They can help clear this up faster because they go right to the affected area.

definitely call the doc and get on meds if you're not already.

What meds are you on by the way? How much of your colon is affected...limited or throughout?

Happens to me all the time when flaring. I always tell this story...I went 8 days w/out going anything but blood and mucous. Let us know what meds you are on.

This is happening to me now. WHERE does the poop go. I feel like I am loaded up with it! When I do finally poop it is nothing what should be in there after 6-8 days!! Where is it???

Sometimes I have tenesmus/bowel spasms and know there is nothing there. Sometimes I have it and there is stool stuck up about 4 inches up into my rectum (sorry TMI I know). When the stool is hard and stuck, I use an enema filled with warm water with lots of Vaseline on it, and now am very careful when inserting it due to a poster on here who stabbed themself with the enema tip and got hurt... Either that or I use a suppository to get it out. You should consider using a fiber supplement everyday cause I get like that too and it's very annoying and painful.

Tab & princesscolon - do you get D? if so, when do you have D symptoms and when do you have C symptoms? thanks.

doodledoo & braille - as others have posted, and in my experience too, sometimes it is just urgency and other times (or in addition) it is constipation. I would be interested in hearing more of your backgrounds/meds since I'm trying to learn more about those of us UC'ers experiencing C as opposed to D.

This sounds like me everyday of a flare- I haven't had it bad like that since I got on the Prednisone (last July- ugh) and now I'm on Humira, tapering Prednisone and crossing my fingers.

Yes, this happens to me with every bad flare!!  Its the tenesmus that will cause me to call my GI and report the flare.  Some diarrhea,  blood and mucous I can handle (early in flare),  but the tenesmus and rectal pain I can/t.  I hope you get better soon!!

Are you saying you're constipated? The poop isn't going anywhere if it's not comming out...with crohnies this can happen and it's usually a symptom of having a blockage, which for crohnies, can be a typical CD symptom, however I don't know how common it is for UCers....maybe you should talk to your doctor about this.

I have a Dr's appointment this Wednesday. I can't wait. I have no D. and have never had D. Just mucus and blood. about a cup a day after going to the bathroom at least 20 times or more. The urgency is bad. After about 6-8 days I finally get a small bm out. soft and looks like a small flat snake. So I know it is not impacted, which is a relief. I keep picturing my colon bursting!!! This has been going on for at least 3-4 weeks now. I have not had a colonoscopy in about 5 years so I imagine they will want to do one, which will clean me out...should take awhile with a months worth of poop in there. :-)

The only meds I am on is
asacal 400 mg 2/2 x day

I just found this post and wanted to add something hoping someone will answer..
My flares have always started with loose stools, ..no blood just loose..and then they progress to this SAME situation..EXACTLY..urges 30 40 50 times a day and NOTHING coming out but blood and tiny bits of stool..What is this all about? Why does my doc say I have universal colitis if all this symptoms are mainly related to the rectal area???
Right now I am not in a huge flare but I am crossing my fingers. Ijust got off humira and started a whole new regime, new diet, supps, increased my salofalk (asacol) and just praying I stay ok. Going 1-3 times a day only during the day but still have some very low back pain and lots of urgency when i go. I am trying to get some rectal meds asap to help clear it all up.
So I found this post and I wanted to know as well what these symptoms are all about and how damaging is it...and also is it common?

Krissy, maybe you healed and just the rectal area is inflamed still. I hear it's the hardest place to heal. I hope you can get those rectal meds.

I think everyone with this problem should try out some rectal meds and see if it helps.

i was in the same situation as you.. about 2 weeks later i was diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowl syndrome) the doctor gave me tablets called 'buscopan'.. You should try it! It really helps :) cool

When this happens to me I make a drink with metamucil and eat more fruit/veggies....if feeling really bad I'll pop in a Canasa

usually means I'm not empty :-( Doc called this tenesmus
