Hi! I was diagnosed with UC in Nov. 2006,  I am currently looking into trying "Remicade". The Meds I am on now are: Asacol, Loeprenamine, the Hemrroidal suppositories and the Rowasa

Enema Suppositories.  I was put on Prednisone in 2006 and had a shot respite of being in remission,,,,,I'm at my wits end as I cannot seem to get in remission and this effects your life to the MAX.  I'm constantly going the bathroom or looking for one.  I wonder if anyone has tried "Remicade" and can share how it worked for them.  I'm praying that something will work and I will stay in remission for a good long time.  I also take Ativan & Zoloft,  Last year I had a Total Hysterectomy schedule 3 or 4 times but could never get Uc under control.

Hi and welcome to the forum Lady in Pink! I am on Remi right now and have been for quite some time. It has done wonders for me, and it gave me my life back. When I started Remi, I was quite ill, so I was thankful that it had such a great effect on me, but this is my story. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask and again, welcome to the forum! You've found an awesome group of people.

Welcome, Lady in Pink. I've been in remission for nearly two years due to Remicade. There are a lot of us here taking it, some with good results and others not so good. Like anything else, we react differently.

I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty of giving your thread a more descriptive title. I think you'll get more responses with the specific topic in the title.

Hi, I've been on Remicade for about 13 months now and it has been the only thing that put me into remission after a year of trying pretty much every other drug.
Humira is not used as much for UC because so far in the U.S. it's only approved for Chrons disease.
Sounds like you are where I was, which was pretty much use remicade or have my colon removed. Remicade turned things right around and has continued to work well for me.

How long does it take to see improvement with Remicade?

For me it was overnight; literally. For others, it's taken a few infusions to get into remission. I wish I had a firm answer for you, but this illness is so bizarre to say the least!

Is it true that once you start on Remicade you shouldn't stop because you develop antibodies and becomes ineffective?

Some doctors will give short courses of Remicade and stop it, but I think most won't. Not everyone develops antibodies, but some do. Like everything else with this disease, it's a roll of the dice. I got three infusions in 2004 then had to stop because my insurance wouldn't cover additional treatments. I started back on it in early 2006 with no problem. I started getting noticibly better after the second infusion each time.
