6-MP and toddlers

My daughter is almost 3 years old and for the past 18 months has had colitis.  She hasn't been officially diagnosed with any particular disease, but the Pediatric GI is just treating the symptoms.  She has been on prednisone (which worked but as soon as we started tappering off, it stopped working), asacol, colazol (after she got off of it, her symptoms improved for about a month and then went back to "normal"), and various anti-biotics.  Her doctor wants to put her on 6 MP, but I'm just so worried because she is so young.  She has diarrehea at least 3 times a day with blood most of the time.  Does anyone else have a 3 year old that has been dealing with this?  I just don't know what to do.

Eek! I just shudder to think about a toddler having to go on such a heavy duty medication! I agree that maybe you should get other opinions because has she tried suppositories or enemas yet? These are little more benign then 6mp. We have several parents of children with IBD here on HW so maybe they can chime in. I'm soooo sorry to hear that your daughter is having so many troubles and at a young age too.........breaks my heart :(
