I just joined this site minutes ago, as I was looking for some information on my UC.  I have been diagnosed over 20 yrs ago.  It seems that all the literature I come across incicates diarhea as being the most common symptom.  Although my symptoms have gotten a lot worse over the years, I never really have a full blown diarhea nor constipation.  I would like to know if I am the exception to the norm ?

My symptoms are mostly, frequent soft stools assosciated with cramps, left sided abd pain, rectal burning, occasional rectal bleed, cramping, tenesmus, and fatigue.

Well, you're definitely flaring...there are many degrees of flares with many different combinations as well...are you on rectal meds? You should be with the symptoms you're having in your rectom (proctitis).

Tipoil, some of us have diarrhea, some frequent but not liquid stools, some constipation. Sounds like you have symptoms of proctosigmoiditis, and rectal meds can be really helpful with that. My symptoms are similar to yours when I'm in a mild flare.

tyvm Judy and pb4 for your response...

Yes I am and have been for years on salofalk supositories and also now on salofalk enemas. To your knowledge, has anyone ever mention having adverse effects from those meds. Reason I ask is, as my symptoms have gradually increased lately, I have upped the use of both meds along with max dose Asocol. As all 3 are the same (mesalamine) drug, and my symptoms seem to increase as I increase the use of all 3, I now wonder if this is not the best drug for me !!

Ya, if you've been on those rectal meds for yrs I'd say they're not doing it for you...ask for cortifoam. Salofalk really never did a thing for my proctitis.

I'm severely allergic to asacol, infact I'm either allergic or non-responsive to traditional oral RX but luckily I can use rectal meds (of which only cortifoam works magic for me)...so I basically rely on the natural route along with a very healthy diet and regular exercise.

I developed a sensitivity to mesalamines over the years too. I was on both Asacol and Rowasa for many years and now my body just won't take them anymore. I have an increase of symptoms especially D when I use them and also I get flu like symptoms. I now take Colazal and for my rectal bleeding, I have no choice but to use steroid enemas.
