hey it's UC2008's fiance, emergency surgery

just wanted to let you guys know that my fiancee Jillian had the surgery today.
it all happened about 3.30 am last night, she woke up with pain, bad pain. So we went to UCLA emergency and got there by about 5am.
we checked in and they took X-rays, they found free air under the diaphragm.......rupture.
so at 8.30 she had surgery to find the rupture. Long story short, she needed the whole colon removed, and in a few months she will receive the J-pouch.
it was a tough day for her but she's a champ. i'll be with her through the whole thing and we'll learn together how to deal with it.
the staff at UCLA was amazing and made both of us feel like this was the best for her. The left colon was totally bad but she already had ulcers in the right part as well.

She is doing fine, actually took it much better than expected and now we are looking forward to a life without pain and suffering, change for sure, but no more UC. crazy how fast it all went, but they said her UC was very aggressive but they caught the rupture right away. I think this was about a 4 hour surgery.

to all you guys I haven't met or talked to, I had to learn a lot about UC in a short period of time and this board helped alot. so thanx guys.
my prayers go out to all of you and pleas send one out for Jillian so she'll have a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry that she had to have such drastic steps taken but I'm glad that it was caught in time. Please send her our best and of course many prayers for a speedy recovery are going to come her way.

She should do fine and she will look forward to a very full life post surgery.  I had my surgery crosstown at USC Norris Hospital 7 years ago.  All is well and I am grateful for the life I have had post surgery. No more meds!

I'm sorry she had to go through getting so very ill, but glad the surgery was successful and she's on the mend. On the positive side, she no longer has UC. If her colon was that bad, she'll have a better life after than she would have if she hadn't needed surgery. And she's supremely lucky to have a guy like you standing beside her.

I hope she heals quickly and is able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I want to commend you for being so supportive, it's a long hard road for everyone involved.

Hi. I am sorry that Jillian had to deal with this emergency. I am so glad that everything went well. It's great that you are there to support her. Let her know we are thinking about her. I hope her recovery goes smoothly and quickly. Remember we are here for you too! Keep us posted.

I'm so sorry she had to lose her colon but am very glad she'll be okay and I hope she has a speedy recovery and does excellent with her j-pouch.

So sorry to hear that she had to go through the surgery.I hope she gets better soon so she can start fresh again.You are a great support to her, she will need your support so much right now.We will be here for both of you,keep us posted.

Hi!

I had my colon removed 3 years ago....unfortunately I cannot have a j-pouch due to Crohn's. However if you have any questions about ostomies let me know. Bring Lysol or Oust air freshner to her room. when she starts having out put through the stoma there will be a smell when the ostomy pouch is emptied. Also-I put 2 tic tac, yes tic tacs in my bag (the white or green ones) after everytime I dump my bag to help with the smell. So it comes out minty, yeah I know that's kinda gross!

Mine was an emergency (well kinda I had 16 hours to think it over then I took a trun for the worse and there was nothing to think about!) and just be prepared to offer a ton of support. I cried, I felt ugly, dirty, and my confidence hit an all time low. She is in my thoughts and I hope for a speedy recovery.

Hi UC2008...sounds like a very scary experience but with a good outcome. I hope your girlfriend has a smooth recovery. Your support is definitely a huge part in the process.
