After Prednisone

Hi everyone, I was wandering if anyone a has had these same issues after prednisone.  I've been off prednisone since end of December and have been suffering from the following since...stiffness but not sure if it's joints or muscles (never had this before) mostly in the legs and shoulders, fatique, headaches (really bad ones at times), and a general all round blah feeling.

I'll be talking with my doc about this but in the mean time if anyone could shed some light this, it would be greatly appreciated

When you get off Prednisone, it takes time for your adrenal glands to adjust and start functioning normally again.

This is normal. It took me a full year off pred to alleviate these symptoms.

Unfortunately, that's normal. The longer you were on pred, the longer it takes to go away.

How long were you on pred?

as far as i know, you should not take prednisone for more than a month.. because there are lots of side effects... I also had that feeling when i took prednisone for a month.. i also got some skin allergies...

ooohhh, thanks everyone for the input and the article on mayoclinic.  I thought it would only take a couple weeks to adjust.  I started prednisone in Aug at 20mg for a couple months then decreased 15mg in Oct, then 10mg in Nov and finished Dec on 5 mg.  So I guess after 5 months of prednisone it's going to take a while.

Prednisone is not recommended for long term therapy, but its use is not limited to a month. For some other diseases, or for some with UC who can't achieve remission with any other method, Pred is used longer-term. You have to weigh risks against benefits. In the short-term, the benefits of Pred outweigh the side effects. In the long run, they don't. That's why it's only used for long-term therapy in situations where there is no other option.
