Amniocentesis

I know what your feeling, it sucks.  I was 32 when my afp came back abnormal, yes a very high false positive rate.  My feeling is they shouldn't even use it.

Amnio was not bad (limited pain) the needle is large and you feel pressure, but not a lot of pain.  It hurts when it first goes in, then you feel pressure and then nothing.

They do have a test that they can do along with the amnio that is 98% I think it's called a FISH test, ask about it.  You get the results back in 3 days.  Amnio can take 2 weeks.

Same with me. My ultrasound came back abnormal. The DR's felt that my baby might have had a disease where the head was growing faster than the torso. The thought was that the baby once it was born would be severely retarded, and would die shortly after it's birth. My baby is now a normal, healthy, happy 20 year old young woman. It's a pretty painless procedure. Try not to worry too much. Sometimes these tests are more worry than there worth. Thoughts and prayers are being sent your way. :) Take care.

I had one due to my age at pregnancy ( 15 yrs ago) and I did have an local .....yes I felt pressure but not too bad

The worst part for me was the waiting and at that time it took 3 weeks to hear the results
Happy to say I have a healthy and beautiful baby ( well teen now ) and all is good
