Hey all! Thought i would post his for anyone in the chicago area. Saturday March 29 there is an educational symposium about IBD. I have attended this several times and it is always interesting. Last year I posted tons of info about pregnancy and IBD that I got there. If you are interested in attending go to http://www.ccfa.org/chapters/illinois/ for more info on how to sign up.

If anyone wated to go and meet up let me know!

The way it works is there are four sections, each section you have a choice of like 5 lectures to attend. There is food and coffee and such as well as drug company reps giving free stuff.

It's also a great way to get family memebers more info. My husband went last year for the first time and is now picking which lectures he wants to see. It's especially good for those recently diagnosed, you can learn alot about the options out there for us and talk to some really great doctors.

I will be there too! I am looking forward to the sessions on new surgical techniques (Dr. Fichera), IBD Therapies for the Crohns Patient (Dr. Hanauer), Safety and Effectiveness of Medications (Dr. Sales), and To Eat or NOt to Eat (Joan Kanute). There were 16 session to choose from and it was hard to pick out just 4!

My husband sells insurance, one of his favorite insured called yesterday and his wife is in the hospital and just dx'd with UC. Boy did he call the right guy! He told them about ccfa, healingwell, and the symposium. Now we are meeting up with them for lunch while there.

It's great to meet others with UC face to face.

I was unsure if I could fit this in my schedule, etc. but I'm so excited to possibly meet other people with UC and to network with you guys, I'm trying my hardest to sign up!

My husband and I will be attending: (or at least we signed up for)
102 extra intestinal complications
201 IBD therapies for UC
303 Surgical solutions (i've avoided this one the past few years...)
402 safety and effectiveness of medication

Last year there was a great one about yoga and IBD i was sorry to see it wasn't there this year. But i'm still excited

Sounds good! I might be helping out in between sessions at the University of Chicago's table....not quite sure what the plan is as of yet.

They have big and nice bathrooms.....and if it's crowded you can go one floor below and use identical bathrooms (I also seem to suffer froma small bladder!)

Hey all,

I am contemplating going to the Chicago symposium and now I just might go to meet other people. I was going to drag my husband but I think he might be a little fried on my UC/Imuran rants and my mom just doesn't get it, in many ways. She keeps asking my if I can just wean off the Imuran and just take Lialda. If it were only that easy.

Here's my conundrum, though: my specific area of interest is UC care during pregnancy, specifically while on Imuran, as I had a rough pregnancy last year and would like(love) to have more children in the next couple of years. Every time I research Imuran and pregnancy or just UC in general these days, I just get really, really angry and frustrated about all of the above. I also have some issues with my dr. So I wonder if going to this conference will just get my more angry and riled up or will I feel better and more informed? Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure what the presenter will say in the session "the Female factor" but last year they brought in Dr. Uma Mahadevan from the University of California who did an excellent job for the CCFA. I am hoping that they bring in the same quality presenters.

2 years ago it wasn't as good people kept asking questions during the presenter's lecture and she didn't get through her whole presentation. Last year they asked people to hold all questions, write them down on index cards, and they were collected and there was a 15 minute q&a to wrap up the session. It was much better organized last year.
