I see not issue with doing this. This reminds me of a controlled study I looked at some time ago which spoke of E. coli Nissle strain 1917 (a probiotic, not the pathogenic kind) that was so very near identical in results to 5-ASA meds in keeping UC patients in remission (duration, severity, etc.)--really remarkable. The trial was done over some months and I believe 100 or 200 persons were involved. I kept wondering what would happen if someone took both the 5-ASA and the probiotic--twice as effective?? Unfortunately this strain is not available on the market to my knowledge and I wonder if it ever will (always a risk of the immune system mistaking it for its "bad cousin).
