Hi guys,

I have been in Remission since starting Remicade last august. about 2 weeks ago I started to flair. Ive got it all except for the abdomen pain. I have my next infusion tomorrow.

Has anyone flaired while on remicade? will the next IV help to get it back in control? Or do you normally have to get back on other rectal meds? Remicade is the only med i am on right now. I have been off of the rest since about November without any problem.

Help!!!!

I haven't flared since the Remi, but I'm also taking a maintenance dose of Colazal. I hope the next infusion helps, but if it's going to be a while, you might consider calling your GI before things get too bad.

I needed to get on a more frequent infusion schedule and that seems to be doing the trick. I am still on a bunch of other meds though and trying to get off the Prednisone. See how tomorrow goes with your infusion, and if you get back into remission but it doesn't quite last until your next infusion again, then maybe talk to your GI about a more frequent schedule.

One of our other members had the same problem and got over the "hump" with rectal meds. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your responses. I hope this infusion helps. My infusion site is at my doctors office so i will be able to speak wiht her about it briefly tomorrow. it is either that or wait 30 days to get an appt.

I used to start flaring when I was getting close to my next infusion. I would be fine after getting my infusion.

I went through my last infusion and it didn't work.  A bad flare to say the worst.  They put me on pred ( I held off as long as I could).  Had another infusion last week-- doubled the dose.  I haven't noticed alot of changes as before..........it worked right away and then it was like I didn't have it.   Now it's like it's taking it's time if it's working at all.  The bleeding has been hit and miss as welll as the cramping.  The next step they tell me is double dose ever 6 weeks, then if that doesn't work try for HUmira.  It takes an appeal process because in PA it's not covered for UC.

I'm not real thrilled n getting surgery as I've talked to alot of people that have had it and have had real problems.  One lady had UC for 20 yrs and had the j pouch. she regrets it cauxe she goes more now than before UC and has pouchitis alot.

princess colon thank you. I was hoping it could work that way. I am going to talk to my GI today so hopefully we can steer clear of the pred.

nhmm: i am so sorry you are not doing well right now. i hope you do not have to do the surgery. i have heard mixed reviews on it. good luck with the insurance. I hate dealing with that stuff. Hope things turn around soon for you

I have not started remicade yet but my doctor does plan to keep me on asacol even after I start.

It's been awhile, but I too remember that when I initially began my infusions, I would get some slight symptoms such as looser stools, a bit of urgency, and tiredness right before my next infusion. I don't get it much anymore, but last month I did have the tiredness.
