This doesn't have anything to do with Uc but I just a call from my primary and she is referring me out to a rheumatologist because my ANCA blood test came back positive.  Now my mind is racing to figure out which which condition I NOW have.  I'm scared  sad   I know some of you have been following my journey to help me find out what is wrong with me so I thought I would let you all know.

Hi Red, it's okay... don't freak out yet. First, the test should probably be repeated to confirm it. Many times, these tests randomly come back false positive. Don't rely on one single test. The doctors have to put everything together. I don't know enough about the relation of ANCA to UC, but maybe it's all related. Freaking out will do you no good... (easier said than done), do some research on your own and have some questions ready for your rheumatologist so you can help him/her help you. We're all here for you!

Hi Sherry....UC will come back with a positive ANCA as well...

I found this site to confuse you further....as you see it's a complicated process.  You have lots going on...maybe the rheumie will be able to narrow it all down to one thing.

Try not to overreact at this point...as strange as this sounds, you should show positive considering all that's going on.    

Hang tough!  I hope you don't have to wait too long for your appointment...the waiting and guessing is the worst!

You're all right - ok *taking a deep breath*. I will not try to freak out anymore. Even when I was first diagnosed with Uc, I never had a positive ANCA test and I had a couple since then to rule out Lupus. This is the first time it has come back positive. So of course all the other things going on has my mind swirling. My appt with the rheumy is April 7th so the wait time isn't too long.

Darn, you're just having a crummy week, aren't you? I did see that the test can show positive in chronic IBD, so hopefully that's it. The last thing you need is another fancy diagnosis!

Yeah, I read that a positive ANCA test can be from an IBD but because of my other symptoms my primary is referring me out to a rheumy doc. So I am hoping that is what it is. On the other hand, I've been sort of suspecting Lupus for a while now. I sincerely hope that is not the case and I will jump for joy if it's not. One of the main symptoms of Lupus is nose sores (which I had) and a butterfly rash across the base of the nose and cheeks (which I had) and Raynauds (which I DEFINATELY have). But I just don't know....I'm just so confused at the moment. :( When I find out more, I will let you all know. Thanks for the kind words and reassurances.
