Hi,  I'm eleven days out of a flare and was doing real well.  Getting off the meds VERY SLOWLY like you said to do.  Had to have a CT-Scan this afternoon and the 2 bottles of contrast I had to drink brought on awful diarrhea.  My insides are still gurgling and I still have the D.  Is this something that happens when you drink that stuff.  I have some amodium and thought maybe I should take that or should I wait and see if this passes.  Just when things seem to be quieting down nicely, this contrast stuff brings on the diarrhea.  Help!!

Yes, unfortunately that is normal.  I had a CT scan done recently while I was in the hospital.  I was up ALL night that night running to the bathroom.  Immodium doesn't help  me in that type of situation.

I had the weirdest d after my ct scan. I also had those weird crystal things at the same time though and I think that just made it worse...

Make sure you are drinking LOTS of water while you have the D going on as it will dehydrate you. Hope you're feeling better by the time you read this xx

Hi lenie...what meds are you tapering at this time? Ihope it's just the entocort.

I can't help regarding the contrast for the scan..I haven't had the experience.

Hi quincy...about the tapering. I'm off the Entocort, using the Canasa every other night and will continue with that and than taper to every third night. the Asacol I take regularly 2 - 3x a day. I told my doc about this site and the good information and support I have gotten here. You know he never mentioned tapering. He just says "take this for 10 days". I told him that I taper off of everything now an he says keep doing what makes me feel better. He thought this site was a real good thing and was going to check it out. I also told him that it made me sad to see so many young people in their 20's and 30's with this awful UC. about the CT-SCAN.. I've been having pain in my upper abdoman. That's why we did the scan yesterday. I get the results next week. I'll let you know how that turns out. Thanks for listening quincy and thanks for your support. I really, really appreciate it.

The contrast I drank was a thin, clear, pink liquid. The nurse handed me two cups. When I sniffed one suspiciously, I think she said they used Crystal Light to flavor it. It tasted fine to me, but it was hard to drink two big glasses full so quickly. I didn't have any problems afterward at all, but I was only having a mild flare after many years of remission.

princesa... the liquid I had to drink was white. One bottle at home and another before the scan. It gave me the runs something awful but today is much better. Trying to see what's causing pain across top of abdoman. Will wait till next week to get results. Thanks.

Hi...interesting your doc is interested in the site (more should be)..in a good way interesting!

Please don't taper off or too soon regarding the supps...you're going too fast I think. Stay on the every second night for at least 2 or 3 weeks. Truly!! Then do the same for the every third night.

If all remains fine, then do every 4th night. I would suggest you STAY at every 4th night. But, if you don't, you'll know soon enough if you needed to and can increase at any time. It's a constant.. not black and white have to be on, have to be off. Some don't get that concept.

You can take the Asacol twice daily..

When will you find out the results of the upper ct scan. Good you're feeling better today.

quincy...I will slow down the canasa tapering like you said. When you say take the Asacol twice daily, do you mean 3 - 2 times a day. Now I'm taking it 2 - 3 x a day. I have an appointment to go back to the doc on Wed. the 26th. If I'm still hurting on Mon. I'll give him a call to see if he got results back. Don't know why I'm hurting on top of abdoman. Maybe this is part of uc...I don't know. I'll let you know what I hear. Thanks for caring. It's good to know that I have a great support team out there.

Hi lenie..yes you can take it twice a day...I take 3 in the morning, 3 at night. ... for the past 19 years because 3x daily would never work for me.
My theory is more gets to the area at one time rather than less. Has worked fine.

The tummy issues could be that you maybe have something else going on...where exactly is it you're having the discomfort?

I can relate to the tummy/upper abdomen discomfort and have always since I was young. It could be related to UC with rectal only inflammation.

Is your UC throughout?

Hi quincy....Taking the Asacol twice daily would be a lot easier. Sometimes taking those two in the middle of the day gets forgotten. So 3 in the am and 3 in the pm would be easier and hopefully better for me.
about the tummy hurting...it's right across my upper abdomen. I have app't to go back to doc on Wed. to get results. When I had a colonoscopy 6 months ago doc put me on Asacol. Before that I was on Entocort for flares but the flares kept coming back like every 2 months. 3 months ago he added the Canasa. This all started with a bad case of salmonella and than c-diff from so much antibiotic to get rid of the salmonella. I had the salmonella in June 2005. It has been a battle ever since. I don't know where in the colon my problem is but Wed I will talk to him about it. Doc says we just need to find the right combination of drugs that will work for me. He also said that there should be a new drug coming out soon. Maybe it's the miracle cure and we can all be rid of this. Thanks quincy
