question about blood in the toilet...

what is considered ALOT or an amount to worry about, because i look in the toilet, and its like a few drops... not sure if thats anything to worry about. plus how do i know if its from my colon or from hemorrhoids

Get a colonoscopy to know what is going on.

Are you having any other symptoms other than just the blood? If you are then go get checked and if they do a colonoscopy just make sure they do biopsies to check for microscopic UC (my first GI didn't while he was in there and that was poor judgement on his part nono ).

billo...you asked a few questions a while back but didn't answer any of the questions to clarify.

It seems that you are flaring....what meds are you on?

Have you called to make an appointment with your doc? Best to know what's going on rather than guessing.

no cramps, its not painful when I have to go, just a small drop of blood. I havent been on my meds consistently. I'm going to my dr in a month... they dont give out refills w/o seeing him... i mean if i'm doing well why would I have to see him? doesnt make sense

Well when I was first having GI issues a few years ago, I was told not to worry "unless the bowl is full and its running like a faucet" (thanks ER doc). I have had discussions with my GI doc about this since and he said during a flare some is to be expected. When in doubt and you're worried, call and talk to you GI's nurse or see the doc.

I'm NEVER, telling my gi when I'm in a flare because the FIRST thing he has me do is lie on my side w/o my pants and he 'examines me'.... he has chubby fingers and its PAINFUL...not to mention humiliating !

The second i start thinking it might be a flair, i begin logging symptoms and if they last three days, I call the doctor. I used to be much more wait and see, but all that i was seeing was continuous pain. I also start Rowasa and Canasa when there is any blood, even before talking to the doc.

If you're at all concerned about your symptoms, putting up with the humiliation of a rectal exam is par for the course. I'd rather deal with that type of humiliation than the "pooping your pants" humiliation, which unfortunatley comes with a flare, for myself anyhow. Re. the blood in the bowl- I've also been told that unless you're basically bleeding non-stop, don't worry about it. A few drops doesn't seem all that bad.

thanks eva lou, I'm doing better each day, the bm's dont hurt at all, its somewhat formed but comes out easy-peasy-japanesey....just got done and still had 3 drops of blood, but no pain so I think I'm going to make it.
