Prometheus IBD test?

Recently had a scope. Ten years since last one... colon looked bad and GI thought it looked more like Crohn's. Biopsies however were inconclusive. Did the blood work for the Prometheus test today. We shall see what that shows.

I really don't care "what" I have. More interested as it relates to approved meds. GI and Rheumy wanted me to go with Humira post scope... We shall see what the Ins co says..

Anyone get a positive dx with the special blood test?

I didn't think that test had any diagnostic value??? I was under the impression the Prometheus tests were to see how your body metabolzied either 6MP or imuran.  That's what I had them for, at least. Also, Prometheus is a lab in California, not the name of the test itself. So maybe your GI did some sort of diagnostic test using Prometheus labs?

I noticed today that Prometheus name was on my Entorcort bottle today - I wonder if they distrubuted the drug. I did I blood test for P-A-N-C-A and something else but I don't know if it was the prometheus test or not. My doctor said that one was for UC and one was Crohns and they were fairly accurate but I tested negative for both.

Prometheus is a company that distributes Entocort EC. Prometheus also has a laboratory that can test for the enzyme needed to metabolize 6MP/Azathioprine and for toxicity of metabolites of 6MP/Azathioprine. And they also have an IBD test panel that was developed initially to help physicians determine whether someone has UC or Crohn's when biopsies/other tests are inconclusive, but now is being used to diagnose people with IBD when other tests are inconclusive (misuse of the test? possibly, but I'm not an expert on this).

My daughter had this test done before diagnosis with UC. It was the serology 7 test by Prometheus. 

The test is supposed to tell you if your pattern is consistent with IBD. Hailey's came back negative even thought she was diagnosed with UC. Guess it's not perfect.

And one should never rely soley on the results of a Prometheus test to determine whether or not they have Crohn's or UC.  These tests are far from definitive and should only be used as one part of the IBD jigsaw puzzle.

I've had two of the Prometheus tests, and they have come back both ways: one predicting UC, the other predicting Crohns. I just had a consultation with the physician/researcher who developed the Prometheus test (to tweak my meds), and I told him about the conflicting test results and asked him to clarify my diagnosis. He didn't hesitate in saying that I definitely have Crohns, based on the results of my last colonoscopy. So clearly the tests are less than perfect.
