pinch pain on left side - enemas

Hey all...

My UC has been "active" for the past 4 years, but over the past year, I've been on REMICADE and it seems to be improving a little every time. Recently, I started taking CORTISONE ENEMAS and those seemed to help me NOT wake up so much at nights (I used to wake up 4-6 times a night to poop, now only 1-2 times and even then, it seems to be more GAS than stool).

Today, I started to feel a SHARP PINCHING PAIN on my left side though. It comes and goes, and isn't really a major bother, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had something similar or knows what it might be. Seems like my stool is being "held back" more these days and then coming out more IN ONE SHOT, so it "feels" like it's my system "changing" from within, but maybe it's just a kidney stone or something.

For me occasional pinching on the left side has happened when I'm recovering from a flare so I take it as a sign of the tissue healing process. As long as you're able to retain the Cortenemas & have fewer bms daily that are more formed, you can relax about that-- just be sure to keep yourself hydrated & get adequate nutrients from food & multivitamin/mineral supplement. At some point your enemas will have to be tapered down gradually; maybe your gastro has already mentioned that. Best wishes for continuing progress/improvement. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

Phew, thanks for that, my friend. I'll be seeing my GI in about two weeks, so I just needed some re-assurance before then. I was pretty sure that it was a "good sign", as my BMs have decreased since I started using the enemas but you never know.

Anyway, thanks again for the positive words and advice.

You're very welcome! Cortenemas saved me from near-hemorrhage in 1980; as med goes they can have a truly awesome effect, on severe left-sided UC especially. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
