Hi Happy Living, I think rectal meds are very important when trying to get a flare under control. I use them all the time and since I've been in remission I still continue with them but every other day. Have you tried cortifoam as a rectal med, it's easy to retain plus you can use it throughout the day and still be able to move around without fears of leaking.
As for the probiotics I use a probiotic with 50billion active cells and I take it daily, it has helped me get through my last flare which was the worst I have ever had since I was diagnosed.
When it comes to food everyone is different on what foods irritate them and cause pain. For me raw veggies, especially romaine lettuce is a killer. Fruits I find hard, they cause pain except bananas. Dairy, wheat and corn I avoid if all possible. I eat tons of rice products, they are non allergenic and don't seem to cause problems. Bland foods that are easy to digest seem to work well during a flare. Plus I find anything that has little seeds or grains in it also hard on the colon. I also take a fibre drink (metamucil) since my colon can't handle any other kinds of fibre during a flare.
As for the aloe I didn't have luck with it in the past, but others like it so it depends on your body if its good for you or not.
