Anyone flare up from taking aspirin?

I took 2 pills on 5/9 and 2 on 5/10, started to bleed on 5/13, took 2 more on 5/16, then realized hey I am not supposed to be taking this............I have about 3-4 bm's a day, prev. 1-2 a day no blood.

I have gotten better (less blood), but I figure, that I started flaring 4 days after taking the aspirin, so I took it last on 5/16 so maybe it could get worse again?

Also, I was on vaca and when I got home on 5/17 I started taking my steriod e's and will call GI if not better this wed.

My primary wanted me to try aspirin for inflammation and pain in my shoulders. I told her that I wasn't sure if I should take it but would give it a try. Within 2 doses of the aspirin, I started bleeding again. Some people can take it with no troubles and others can't so much as look at them.

I have no taken aspirin but did take baby asa (81mg) during both my pregnancies and never had a problem, but i know that aspirin is supposed to be a no no w/ ibd. good luck, i hope u can get better w/o action!

Steroid enemas since that is the only rectal med I can tolerate. But luckily I responded quickly and only had to be on them for very short term.

I take aspirin all the time for headaches...I've never had any problems with it. My GI has given the OK but definitely wants me to totally avoid ibuprophen..which I do.

Not all can take aspirin....you cannot take any 5ASA meds, I think you must stay away from salicylates altogether.

There are also foods that are high in salicylates...maybe look into that to make sure you know what you're eating. It might help.

I would think that steroid enemas and maybe entocort oral may help you...

It can promote bleeding in the bowels which is why advil, aspirin are all suppose to be avoided...tylenol is the safe bet.

I bleed even if I take baby aspirin.

thanks, I know I am not supposed to take any NSAID's but for some stupid reason aspirin just never got through my thick skull! ~ I will never, ever, ever, ever make that mistake again. Though before pan-colitis I used to take Aleve for my menstrual cramps and be ok but I will never do that again either. Tylenol and/or heating pad for me.

I think I am doing better and have contacted GI.

My GI has told me no aspirin or Advil - can cause a flare. I'm not willing to take the change. Judy

My GI told me to stay away from aspirin, Advil and ibuprophen but said Tylenol was OK. I think it was just because of the Asacol but it could also be an IBD thing. I have stayed away from them since I was diagnosed but I have taken Tylenol a few times for head aches and was fine.

Beth, we live and learn from our mistakes. Don't beat yourself up over it. For your menstrual cramps, does the Tylonel and heating pad work or are you still miserable? The reason I ask is because I had severe (I mean drop to your knee type pains) with mine and I would use Darvocet. Granted for me, it barely made a dent in my cramps but if the Tylonel and heating pad don't work that well, you can ask for Darvocet. That way you can avoid the Nsaids and aspirin.

Thanks, I used to have cramps so bad I could not leave the house, the only thing that would help me was Aleve, in high school I used to get the prescription strength. I just started getting my period again, I barely had it while flaring and on the high dose of pred. The tylenol helped me, but I fear that it will get worse over time, so I will look into darcovet.
