I second this question.
I saw some probiotics at a Whole Foods Market yesterday and the average price for probiotics was about
$30!!!!! Is this a typical price?

It is a good questions. Some people tend to respond to certain probiotics while others do not. The only lactobacillus / bifidobacteria based probiotic that has helped me is VSL#3. I hate to recommend it because it is so awful expensive and most insurance companies do not cover it yet.
$30 is probably typical for most brands. However, you can usually find a better deal online.

I bought for my son the vsl#3, the # of bacteria - 450 billion per serving.
In Kefir 10 billion ,
For the price you get more bacteria.
You can take 1/2 or 1/4, and you still get more.
In the morning he took advantage digestive, iron, fiber and asacol with breakfast.
about
1 - 2 hours before dinner he took the vsl#3, which is BTW mix with water no dairy.
slight improvement start to takes place in less then a week.
His diet consist of chicken brown rice potatoes cooked veg.
for breakfast and wholewheat bread.

I spend almost 30.00 for the probiotic I take, but it's for 90 caps and only one/day is needed so that makes it very cheap...I use primadophilus reuteri made by natures way found in the stores refridgerator as they must be kept cold, that's the only downside to these ones, I've had much sucess with them and highly recommend them...they come in powder formula as well but the caps are just as effective and easier.
It also aids with lactose intolerance, high cholesterol and for women, vaginal health...I haven't had a single mouth ulcer since taking them for the last 4ish yrs now and that's a record for me...it has guaranteed intestinal release as well.
:)
