Had my colonoscopy Friday - it seems that only about 15-20% of my colon is messed up, so I am in fairly good shape. [img]/community/emoticons/yeah.gif[/img] That said, my back has been killing me. My lower back feels like someone is pushing on it. My upper back hurts too sometimes, and they don't usually hurt at the same time. My gastro doc said it was probably a form of arthritis that can occur with IBD. Anyone else have this? If so, what do you take for it?

No, but Remicade is supposed to be a Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment as well so you'd think it would help if you do have arthritis.

Yeah you would think! But no, no help there. In fact, I have achy joints (knees) after my Remicade treatments. My doc said the Prednisone I am back on should help the arthritis. He said not to take Celebrex with Prednisone so I guess I am on my own for now. eyes

Angel.. I have had the worst back pain the last few days!! Its mainly in my lower back.. and sometimes Its up between my shoulder blades and even the back of my neck seems sore some days!! I was taking Tylenol for it but lately I guess I have just been living with it. I find warm water in the shower helps... what I would like is a personal massage therapist!! haha! Sometimes I sit up in bed and just rub my legs and knees.. gees some days <like Sunday passed> even my fingers and toes hurt ! I gave up complaining about it to people because they look at me like I a insane.. like how could I have arthritis if I am only 26 yrs old!!

What I was wondering is.... will the pains get worse as I get older? Like, people with arthristis tend to get bent and crippled up as they get older.. will this happen to ppl who have UC related arthritis or do we just have the pain and not the crippling?? Scarey...

Yeah I was wondering that also. It gets so bad that I can't get to sleep at night. My doc said the Prednisone will help that but we'll see. I'll ask my doc when I see her again in three weeks. I was already having arthritis in my knees really bad but this back stuff just started. Like you say, it hurts mainly in my lower back but sometimes in the middle of my back and in between my shoulder blades. I've also noticed my left shoulder blade hurts a lot when I am sitting down. We're too young to feel like elderly people!

you could try a simple yoga thing that works wonders for my lower back, especially while i'm pregnant.
i have heard some people call it cat/cow but it could be something else.

anyway, get on hands and knees and slowly arch your back (dropping belly towards floor) and raise your head a little while you inhale.

then curl your back (like a cat) and drop your head while you exhale.

go slowly and just do as many as you like.

when i was pregnant with my first i did like 40 of these every night and more during the day if i needed it (it also helps my sciatica) and i never had any lower back pain the whole time.

this time i've been slacking with the stretches and my back is letting me know!

BTW, congrats on your pregnancy. Sept will be here before you know it! I am expecting my first child in December via a gestational surrogate.

I complained about the lower back pain at my last regular (non-UC) check-up and my primary care physician ordered x-rays. I have arthritis and have been taking tramadol for the pain and the inflammation.

Angel, I had a bout of inflammatory arthritis a year ago related to my colitis/crohns. The pain started in my back, then hips, knees, and finally my ankles swelled to twice their size. I went on 60mg pred..eventually tapering to 0 mg in 6 months. I also switched from Asacol to Azulfidine

Thank you Pooie! Yeah I hope the Prednisone she just put me on helps the arthritis. I also hope that once my colon calms back down the arthritis will also. I have my Remicade treatment Thursday so we'll see!
