PLEASE HELP CONFUSED?

OK I GUESS I SHOULD START FROM THE BEGINING. IT ALL STARTED BACK IN OCT 3 2007. I WAS FEELING BAD I GUESS STARTING ON OCT 1 2007 WITH HIGH FEVER (101.5 - 102.5) DD AND VOMITING AND STOMACH PAIN. I WENT TO ER ON OCTOBER 3 AND THEY DID A DIRECT ADMIT THOUGHT IT WAS MY GALLBLADDER. SO THEY DID CAT SCAN BLOOD WORK ETC. THE CAT SCAN CAME BACK AND SAID IT WAS PANCOLITIS. MY DOC SCHEDUDLE ME FOR A FLEX SIG THE NEXT DAY AND BIPOSIES. HE TOLD ME IT WAS INFLAMMATION BUT DIDNT THINK IT WAS PANCOLITIS. SO I HAD IV THERAPY ANITBODICS AND PAIN MEDS. I WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL ON OCT 6, 2007. AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE ASACOL 400 MG 3 TIMES A DAY. MY DOC SAID HE WANTED TO DO A FULL COLONSCOPY ON NOV 22, 2007. NO PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. SO I WENT TO DO MY COLOSCOPY ON NOV 22, 2007 AND HE DID BIOPSIES AS WELL. HE THEN TOLD ME I HAD MILD INFLAMMTION AND THAT HE THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS OK AND IT WAS ACUTE DIEASE. SO I CONTIUED TO TAKE MY ASACOL AS HE PRESCRIBED AND HE TOLD ME I COULD TAPER DOWN TO TWO A DAY AND THEN STOP THE MEDS AFTER THE TIME HE TOLD ME SO. SO I DID AS HE SAID. THEN BACK IN MAY OF 2007 I WAS REALLY SICK AGAIN WITH HIGH FEVER OF (102.5) VOMITING, DIAREAHHA (SPELLING SORRY) SO I CALLED THE OFFICE AND MY DOCTOR WAS NOT ON CALL. SO I EXPLAINED TO THE OTHER DOCTOR WHAT WAS GOING ON. HE WAS GOING TO TELL ME TO GO THE ER, BUT I TALKED HIM OUT OF IT, HE CALLED ME IN LEQUVIAN, PREDISIONE AND TOLD ME TO TAKE ASCAOL 400 MG X 9 TIMES A DAY (3600 MG) SO I TOOK IT ANT IT TOOK about 6 DAYS FOR THE FEVER, VOMITING AND DIHAREAAH TO GO AWAY. SO I WENT BACK TO MY DOCTOR FOR A FOLLOW UP VISIT AND HE SAID NOW ITS NOT ACUTE ANY MORE THAT I HAVE UC. (REALLY CONFUSED HOW CAN HE TELL WITHOUT DOING ANOTHER SCOPE) SO IM NOW TAKING MY ASCAOL AGAIN, AND MY RIGHT SIDE STILL HURTS LIKE CRAZY PAIN EVERYDAY.  IM SO CONFUSED. CAN ANYONE OFFER ANY ADVICE.  DO I HAVE UC OR NOT?

D_A when you say that you waited for one year, were you not seeing any difference at all?? the reason i am asking is bacause my husband is on Asacol which he started in first week of march the same day when he got diagnosed with UC. Up until end of may there were improvements but there was a minor flare after every 3-4 day. the blood was not stopping. he had 2-3 bowel movements but he had lot of stomach cramping, bloating and gas. he was loosing weight after each minor flare. finally after reading about the rectal meds on this website so much, i requested it and his GI prescribed hydrocortisone enemas for three months. so for the last two and a half weeks he is a little better. i was thinking may be meds always take this much time to make you feel better but now i am really questioning. after taking rectal meds his bleeding is slightly better but still easily seen in the stool or on top of it. do you think that we should also request some other medicine??

I'm glad to see you asked your questions here on HW Teresa :) Sorry I didn't have much time to chat with you the other night. It was bed time and my hubby was pestering me to go to bed. Couple of questions for you. When you go to the bathroom, is it almost always loose? Do you ever see any blood? If so, what color is the blood? Do you see mucous - either white slimy stuff or clear? Did you have any and/or all of these symptoms at one time or another?

A doctor typically will not go from saying your colitis to having Uc without confirmation of a scope/biopsies and/or blood tests. That's like saying that someone has a cold and turn around and tell them they have emphysema with no testing. I think you should find another doctor or at least call this doc up and ask for clarification? Ask how he can tell it has changed, what did the biopsies reveal, did the scope show ulceration, if so, how far was the ulceration.
