Is gas and nausea like this normal?

Ive been flaring for a few weeks now. The blood and d have improved with increased prednisone. Last time I had a flare in January, the prednisone made me a little nauseous. This time around I get very nauseous, my lower and upper stomach cramp really bad and Im very gassy! The gas smells of something terrible, but relieves the nausea and cramping. Ive had about 6 waves of this feeling today and over 10 yesterday. It wakes me up at night too! Bleh. Ive had UC for several years and this is the first time I've felt like this tapering off the pred. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm interested in anyones experience with over the counter gas medicine. Its not alright to be this gassy and smelly in public!

When I got really gassy and it stunk to high heaven, I mentioned it off-handedly to my GI and that certainly got his attention. Ended up on a dose of Flagyl which both improved my symptoms and delbt with the super-stinky-gas-of-doom problem.

Flagyl is a RX but be sure you're taking a good probiotic when taking antibiotics because antis kill off everything and make your system even more vulnerable...it's suggested we tend to have bacterial over-growth issues due to IBD and therefore taking a good probiotic daily and indefinitely is best...there are lots of posts here regarding probiotics you should read, they're pretty informative.

Like I said, my GI told me to take fibre supplements daily and indefinitely and I've been doing so for the last 5 yrs with nothing but benefit...initially it increased gas and bloating for about 3 months but it was well worth it, and it's normal, just your system adjusting to it...don't be afraid, always start with a small amount (drink plenty of water with it) and only increase if necessary and slowly.
