I upped my pred again

went from 5mg to 20mg last wed saw some improvement (less blood, same amt of bm's, maybe a couple less here and there) and now so sick of it, put myself up to 40mg today to try to get rid of this flare.

I know I should call my GI, but he will want to put me on remicade (I can tell this using my ESP skills) and I am just not ready to do that, I am pretty sure this flare was caused by aspirin so I just want to try to see if I can taper down the pred again.

I feel bad about upping my pred w/out talking to my GI, so maybe I will call them today and let them know.  I guess I am just hoping I can get this flare under control and then taper back down to 5mg.

Sorry to hear you still aren't doing well.

What are your fears about remicade?

Have you upped your probiotics?

40 usually got be better within a few weeks but had such a hard time coming off.

for remicade it is kind of my "last hope" before surgery unless I can somehow get on humira. So I trying to keep that in bag so to speak, it's my security blanket (even though who knows if it will help me or not). I know I just cant live my life with flares for very long (I lose too much blood and quality of life) and will get the surgery if the meds don't help me.

I just went back on probiotics and take the refrigerated 5billion cfu promidiolphious (sp?) natures way kind. I was thinking of upping that to 2xday, what do you think?

Also, kb5, how are you doing on remicade?  How is your nausea?  Are you still on imuran?

Remicade works great for me, if you are covered for it I wouldn't wait.

Beth, why Humira and not Remicade? I thought they were similar.

Remicade is FDA approved for UC and my insurance approved it alreaday (but I went into remission, so I have not gone that route yet). Humira is not yet FDA approved for UC, it is for Chron's, so at this point, I don't know if it would be covered through my insurance, I would probably have to fail on remicade and then go through some monumental steps to get approval or get on a study (which I take other meds for my kidneys, so they prob. would not want me).

I hope this flare was caused by me taking aspirin, which can cause us UC'ers to flare up. When I taper down again, if I flare up, I will most definitely seek out remicade. If Imuran works for me, I have no problem taking it for as long as I can. I feel like I am just buying time anyway..........

I just got diagnosed about three months ago with UC and the very day after my doctor found out it was UC he started me on a Remicade treatment. Ive had 3 since then. Theyve helped me a little and i didnt have any side effects at all =] Dont be scared. For a lot of ppl, Remicade is their miracle drug. You never know unless you try. Keep your head and ill be praying for you
