I remember when I first became sick with this and my wife and I had our second child at around the same time. I worked during the day and when at home in the night I would
let my wife get sleep and if our son would get up, which he did as he would spit up continuosly then I would get up with him to feed and change him. I remember sitting there feeding him and getting the urge to go to the bathroom, I thought it was diarrhea and just kept going that night and then it continued to the point I had to stay there and the poor little guy was on my lap as I was sick and bleeding. I thought maybe I had a bug. Then it started at work as I'd be sitting down and get an urge and I couldn't get to the bathroom fast enough and I'd end up going in my pants before reaching the toilet, you can imagine the embarrasment. It got to the point I couldn't pass gas as I was terrified of embarrasment and the blood and loose stool and not being able to get off the toilet. I once had a fissure tear and thought it was that again so proceeded to get suppositories for hemmoroids and trying to use those things killed me and put me in pain and had my wife finding me trembling on the floor more than once. Finally I had enough and past the denial and went to see my doctor to get a referral to see a gastro specialist. I went for my first segmoid scope and it killed me as the pain was unbearable and when I was put in recovery they came and told me it was colitis and gave me Asacol 500mg pills plus a prescription for salofalk enema's. The pills killed my stomach and did nothing for it and the doctor said that is a side effect and all pills do the same and the enema's just interfered with my family time and where very uncomfortable to administer. I no longer for over a year and counting take any medications and I have no more urges to go to the bathroom, no blood, no cramping, no pain, no high fibre diets(they make UC worse in the first place), and I have 1 bowel movement a day and it is healthy with no mucus and agin no blood and I'm happy to say I can pass gas again which my wife although she is very happy for me hates that part :)
Just imagine having your freedom back, not having to wonder if a bathroom is next to where you are or if you'll make it there, gaining healthy weight and muscle tone, having energy, no mood swings(my wife loves that one). I first hand know how hard this diet is as I love to eat and I'm Canadian so our foods are very greasy and are easy to access which I'm sure the rest of you love too but if you give it a shot you'll feel better, I know it as I have done it and continue to and the food is really good with access to all ingredients just at your supermarket or health store. If you need support feel free to email me when your craving those chips, milk, beer or whatever else it may be or just remind yourself of the pain you used to be in and do you really want to go back to that? Surely the answer is no.
