Has anyone taken Avandia to control UC?

I see it's used for diabetes.....can you expand on why it would be used for UC...etc?

Are you on it, are you wanting to take it? etc.

B/c I'm severly allergic to 5-ASA's and before putting me on Prednisone my dr. suggested Avandia. Interestingly, it's a diabetes medication but there have been studies on it being effective with patients with UC as an alternative to the aforementioned.

I'm also not familiar with it being used in UC, and I've never seen it mentioned here. Any questions you have about the medications itself might be answered at the diabetes board on this forum.

I Googled it and found this article:

The generic name is rosiglitazone, and the study is listed under that. Apparently 44% of people with mild-to-moderate UC achieved clinical remission in this small study.

Thank you for your feedback Judy! My brother-in-law is an executive at the National Kidney Foundation and also sent me a couple of articles on this as well after I mentioned to him that my dr. suggested it as an alternative...thanks again!
