I really have enjoyed having this website to go to and get so much information and support from people who know and really understand.  I know someone (my father-in-law) who might have lung cancer.  (Don't know yet) Anyhow, I was just thinking what a great resource this has been and then looked and noticed there is no forum on here for lung cancer.  Is that because it is not as common?  I thought it was more common than UC.  Anyhow, if it's not on here, does anyone know of a forum like this but that includes lung cancer.  Hopefully tests will show it is not cancer, but just in case, please let me know your thoughts.

Hi Lori! I will ask Peter, our admin, whether he has ever considered a lung cancer forum. Will let you know what I hear. Keep us posted on your f-i-l.

My mom just got diagnosed with lung cancer about a month ago. She doesn't smoke, etc so it was quite a shock! There are lots of resources locally (such as hospital support groups), but there don't seem to be that many online groups...especially for family members of lung cancer patients.

i would certainly participate on a lung cancer board and I know my mom and some of the other lung cancer patients she has met would participate as well!

Maybe healingwell could have a "other diseases" forum. Each thread could just list the name of the disease in the title.

My husband has lung cancer for about a year now and the best forum and website I have found is ....

Dr. West from Seattle is a wonderful oncologist and person.  He will answer any question quickly and professionally. 

I hope it is not lung cancer but if it is - be sure to be proactive in helping him with his decisions for treatments, etc.  Unfortunately, lung cancer is VERY common!!

Thanks to all of you for your replies. Elaine, How is your husband doing? My father in law has a cat scan Tuesday, two x-rays showed the spot on the lower left lung the size of a quarter and it wasn't there last year at his check up. If the cat scan has bad resuts or if he needs a biopsy, they are headed to Mayo, my family is huge on Mayo. My in-laws used to get there anual checkups there and they lived 6 hours away. My husband is doing well.  He has cancer in both lungs - but small tumors that shrunk about 50% with 37 radiation treatments and 4 chemo treatments.  He lost his hair which has grown back.  He had no severe side effects - just a little neuropathy pain in lower legs which is getting better.  Last ct scan - three months after treatments finished showed STABLE condition.  He is considered Stage IV because of being in both lungs.

If your father-in-law's ct scan shows only the one tumor or "spot" he will need a biopsy to be sure it is cancer or a short waiting time to see if it grows.  My husband had a PET scan that lit up but still biopsy is the only way to know for sure.  If it is confined to one lung - one place - nothing else involved  - that is great.  Possibly he could have surgery and a cure.

Good News. The cat scan my father-in-law had showed that the spot was a shadow, nothing to worry about. They did say though that they were concerned that the esophosus looked like there was a thickening of the esophogus wall-he goes in tomorrow for a test-has to drink barium I think. I am glad to hear that your FIL's cat scan turned out well.  I will keep you guys in my prayers and hope for the same outcome on tomorrow's test!

bellski--try healthboards.com for other peoples posts about lung cancer. My mom had it&I got some good info.
