I am 29 years old and had a colonoscopy earlier this week where the doctor found focal patches of erythema and inflammation in my descending colon (left-side). He diagnosed me with 'undeterminate' colitis and sent out several tissue samples for biopsy. Considering the signs of inflammation and my recent symptons (constant feeling of pressure, multiple bowel movements during the day, constant feeling of having to go), he prescribed me with the mesalamine enema for 28 days.
Now I know some of the common side effects are stomach pain, cramps, gas and bloating (which I have had all of for the first few days of taking the meds). I follow the directions and make sure I keep everything in for the entire night but when I wake up, I pass all of the medication in white clumps in the toilet. Is this normal? Or should I expect most of the medication to be absorbed in the colon? Any help from some of the 'veterans' would be greatly appreciated.
I was also curious as to how long it took for the mesalamine enema to work its magic for other people. I have seen a week or two as common, but was curious to hear other's experience. Thanks.
