How long for Pred to work?

Hi - I have been basically having a 6 month flare with lots of bleeding.  My doctor is very conservative and he FINALLY prescribed 20 MG of Pred for four weeks...then I will start to taper off...I have never been on Pred before.  I have been taking it for 10 days so far and have seen quite a bit of improvement.  I am not completely clear though and am still have some slight bleeding and daily passing of mucus. 

How long does it usually take for the Pred to really work?  I don't know if I should call and ask the doctor to increase my dosage or if I should give it another week or so...any feedback from this group would be so welcome!  Thanks!

I posted a question about Pred earlier and there is alot of good information from people who have experience with it.  It is entitled "I have a stupid question about Pred"

I was on 40 mgs of Pred for two weeks and noticed a slight improvement.  My symptoms weren't all that severe to begin with, however.  I had some blood and no diarrhea.

Anyway, I would say call your doc.  If it concerns you, it should concern him/her.

Like I said, there is some really good information in my previous post.

i think you should ask to have your dose increase a little bit and then tapper off of that. I usually up my dose to 40mg when i'm flaring and it helped almost always.

I started with 20 but it never worked. When I moved to 40 it worked and I eventually tappered off and was in remission for about two years. I just started back on the prednisone again on 40 I have only been on a week so not much improvement yet. It is a double edged sword. I don't sleep and feel jittery all day.
