Jobs full or part time

Hi just wonering how many of us have jobs full or part tme and how understanding are your employers. I work part time in a care home doing 12hr night shifts and my employers are very understanding and always ask how i am they also let me change shifts with no hassle and take time off when needed i think i am quite lucky.I also have a husband 3 children a dog a cat and rabbit. tongue

I work full time in a human services program. My agency has been very flexible with me, even allowing me to work from home here and there as needed. For instance, Monday I get my Remi infusion, which will pretty much kill the morning. I usually take my laptop and work part of that time, then I'll come home and work from my recliner chair. I'll be able to work, but tired and will function better if I'm comfortable. My staff knows they can reach me by e-mail or cell phone, the e-mail things to me for review. It's been great, I've never had to miss more than a day or two once in a while due to my UC. (I must admit, though, for five years I went to work on a lot of days when I could barely lift my foot off the ground to take my next step.)

I work full time as a teacher. My principal this year was wonderful as I ws just diagnosed. I'll have a new principal this year. I'm sure she'll be good. I hope not ever to have to stop working I absolutely love teaching and I love the insurance. Good question. I imagine that the people using this sight are pretty severe cases mostly, and those with U,C. that are doing fine probably aren't on here on a dialy basis. So, on this sight, there is a bigger percentage of people that might not be able to work. It's a good question.

We have a gun and knive store that my husband runs I only work on a as need basis. which is good because I normally cant get out of the house before noon. But I also have alot of other health issues. I think some jobs are more understanding then others. I use to do factory work and u where only aloud so many sick days and they really frowned on very many bathroom trips it was all about production with them.

I work full time at a weekly newspaper. I hate my job, but I do have good insurance through it. I was diagnosed shortly after first getting hired there and my boss wasn't very understanding when I had to take about 3 weeks off because I was so sick I could barely even walk.

i work part time as a Pre-school teacher.My boss is a real piece of work...could care less about me & my uc.In fact, she is making me get a dr. note each time I call in sick. We only get 3 days too. I told her that with uc you can feel sick &  that's the beauty of the disease ..but she could care less! And sometimes you have just a sore throat or headache which doesn't warrent a trip to the dr.

I work full time as a teacher (although had been off for several months on leave b/c of UC - will return in September). My principal has been really great - letting me come in late, leave early, whatever I needed to do. Having an understanding boss is the only way I feel that I've been able to work full time.

i work full time for the city and they couldn't have been more generous or understanding when i got sick and was off work for 2 and 1/2 months. i was in the hospital for 6 weeks of that time. all the employees donated sick time to me and i never missed a pay check. its amazing to be able to work for such amazing, caring people. i just went back to work a week and a half ago and it feels great. i also go to school and it takes a lot out of me but i'm stubborn and don't want to stop living because of this "crap"

I work as a reporter for a weekly newspaper - but when I got sick - I worked in day care!!! Kind of odd how that's a theme here.

Day care (I was a college student at the college's day care) was understanding, but of course confused about the illness. At this job, I didn't mention it to anybody until my doctor suggested it might make me feel better since I panicked if I was running late due to "nature" calling.

But I'm flexible already. I can work out of the office or at home. Doesn't matter. I think it's helped, too, that I'm good at what I do and they found out about my illness mid-employment, so they know I'm a hard worker.

I always wonder how people with jobs where they punch in and out deal with something like this. I used to work at Pier One while I worked at the day care and it was hell - not b/c of the people but because you have no freedom to get away and use the john.

I was working as a computer help desk tech when I was dx. It was very rough for me for a long time because I would get up 2 hours early so I would have 30 minutes for the john, 1 hour to eat shower and dress then another 30 minutes for the john after eating before I left. I managed to keep my schedule only because a co-worker gave me rides to and from work. I was too fatigued to stay awake driving. Altho I didn't physically tax myself working there were more than one occasion where I would be stuck troubleshooting a call doubled over in pain from holding my bowels until I could finish the call.

I no longer have that position but am still with the same company. I now administer the health testing schedules for our animals. I live closer to this office and am salaried so it's nice when I have bad mornings I can run a little late and it's not amplified by a 30 minute drive because I only live 2 miles away. Makes lunch nicer too because I can go home, relax for a while, use my "comfy john" and eat home cooked foods instead of fast foods. My boss also has a chronic health issue so he is very understanding of how things can get out of your control and will let me work from home with my laptop on bad days.

I have been at the same job since I was dx'd for over 8 years, I have had to take a few unplanned days off here and there for my UC, but no more so than anyone else does for their sick days and kids sick days. I have not had to take any extended time off, so I don't know how that would go, I can technically work from home though and my last boss was totally understanding letting know that I could work from home whenever I need to. My new boss I don't think would be as understanding but if I get my job done then I don't think it really matters. In the past two years I have gone through 3 direct reports and still have like 6 dotted line bosses. However, the people at my co are great but not super healthy, it seems a lot of people have needed to take time off here and there for illness/family related illness things and co. has been very good.

I do service sales/mktg for scientific instrumentation. I pretty much like my job.

I'm self employed. I run a licensed daycare from my home, have done this for 21 years now and am currently looking for a "real" job. I've had anywhere from 2 - 6 children at a time between the ages of 8 weeks and 6 years old. I am so burned out with this. Alot of hours and you don't get to "leave the building" for lunch or a break, heaven forbid doctor's appointments. (I basically have kids from 7:00 a.m. til 5:30 p.m.) What a pain as far as that goes, but it's been pretty convenient with my UC. When I was first diagnosed I worked at a bank........

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what career I want to go into b/c of the UC. It's driving me crazy, mainly b/c my parents keep bugging to figure out what I want to do. *sigh*

I'm glad all your jobs are pretty flexible!

I work 40 hours a week at a hospital as a secretary... I really love my job and it's pretty UC friendly I guess. I mean, if the phones are ringing off the hook it's hard to just get up and go to the bathroom, but the phones usually aren't THAT bad. And if I do go and it rings, either someone will answer it or they'll call back, it's not that big of a deal. Since it's the operating room, I don't ever talk to patients or anything, just the doctors or vendors, and 99.9% of the time they aren't there to talk to me anyway. So they don't really miss me if I'm MIA.

i'm a teacher. i still haven't told my principal about my uc - some of the other teachers know. noone has complained when i have slipped out upon occasion to use the potty, or asked other teachers to keep an eye on my class for a few minutes,
