Hey there. just lookin to make friends with some people my age that have colitis. Nice to know your not the only one. haha. anyways if you'd like to talk.. respond to this and i will add you on facebook so we can message each other there. Thanks. 21/m. diagnosed at 14 with colitis. recently had to give up college basketball cuz of it. :(

Hey there. I'll be a senior in college in the fall so I know what you're going through. I was diagnosed after my freshman year of HS and I had to give up basketball because of it too. I've been in remission on and off since being on remicade for a few years now. I look forward to talking to you!

I'll be a sophomore in the fall. I started the diagnosis process at 15 so I know what it was like to be a high schooler and college kid with UC

I just turned 21 in Feb. I was diagnosed with colitis a couple years into college.

I'm 24 so I still feel like I'm kinda college age. I've had UC since 13 so I feel your pain man! I have had to skip out on a lot of things that "normal" teens/young adults get to do.

I'm starting my 2nd year of college this fall (hopefully). My UC symptoms began during the last month of senior year and I was officially diagnosed a couple weeks before beginning college.

I went through most of my college career with UC. Unfortunately I had to be a commuter because it was too rough doing the dorm life w/ UC... It was a challenge and I spent a lot of class time in the restroom.... I made it though... I was working full time and going to college part time. I got my associates degree in Mechanical Engineering going full time, then finished my BS in Mechanical Engineering working full time and going to class in the evenings. It took about 9 years to finish everything - was probably the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life....

I feel for you college folks going through UC and college...it is sad to have this disease during what is supposed to be a fun time of life! Make the best of it I guess, stay away from the hot wings and beer...

Hey J-pain, sorry to hear you had to give up college basketball.. i'm going into my fourth year (so that would make me a senior in the U.S) and i play university hockey.  I am flaring now, and whenever i flare i contemplate giving it up, but it's my last year, and I pray that I will be able to keep everything up... I've had 4 flareups in the past year, and luckily, only one of them semi-affected my season for 2 weeks (after christmas holidays and starting up again in january)... i just pray that my flareups keep coming in the off-season!

wow...i'm glad to see i'm not the only young person with this problem...i've just recently started symptoms..my twin sister was diagnosed when she was 15 and we're now 21...i'm starting to see how it's affecting me with cheerleading and working out at the gym...it's so painful to run sometimes...so sorry to all of you who had to quit sports cuz of this...i hope i can stay super active, but am afraid i wont be able to for much longer...what makes this even worse is that i'm going into my senior year of college and applying to graduate schools, which is causing me a bunch of stress, which is probably what made this all come about :( once again i'm really happy to see that i'm not totally alone and that there r plenty of young people out there that r in the same boat as i'm in!!!!! good luck to u all :)

So I decided I might give this all a try. I'm 22 and was diagnosed at 15. I graduated from college last year and just got done teaching my first year of high school math. I know what it's like to give up a sport you love. I had to give up synchronized swimming. I have been hospitalized three times, had a blood transfusion this past year and I get flare ups all the time and it really helps that i have a lot of great friends but It would be nice to discuss it with those who know what its like day in and day out.

I'm 19 and will be a sophmore this year in college. I had issues with my digestive tract before but my family has a history of it and I never wanted to get it checked because I was afraid I would have cancer. I finally had my UC diagnosed back in July and have been trying out different things to make it better ever since. I'm currently trying a diet as limiting in everything as possible and my doctors are hesitant to put me on anything stronger than Asacol and Prednisone which I am currently tapering off of. I'm just really worried about having to share a dorm with someone this time around. It was bad enough last year when the symptoms were at a minimum but now I don't think I will make it without pissing someone off. Its really really embarrassing to have to run to the bathroom first thing in the morning only to find 3 other girls already there brushing their teeth and doing their hair. I want to get an apartment but my contract for the dorm already went through a couple months back and I would be losing a lot of money to back out now. Anyone else had difficulties dealing with roommates, housing, etc? I wish I could hold it until I can make it to another bathroom, but I can't and its impossible to get around having to daily offend my suitemates.

Hey I'm 21 and was diagnosed a year ago. Symptoms since LONG before that. I went to college for a semester and a half then withdrew. I am now married and at the moment not working... but will be once I get my stomach under control.
