How did YOU find Healingwell?

I'm just curious as to how you all found Healingwell?  Was it a web search?  Word of mouth?  A friend's recommendation?

For me, I found HW 4 years ago when trying to find a forum for UC.  I joined a couple of other forums but they weren't very active.  So then I stumbled across HW and was amazed at the mass of info I learned as well as the friendly people and quick responses.  Of course back then, HW was a bit more obscure then it is now.  When I joined, there were about 15,000 members - maybe less.  So I imagine now, it is easier to find then it was before.

I also stumbled across it surfing the net about 4 yrs ago, I found one other site first, small site but a good one, it's no longer around though, and then I found HW...just active enough for me and a good layout.

I think I might have found HW through the same site as pb. I was using it and they were having problems with people being rude and someone mentioned HW and here I am!

I found HW when looking for options with my son's apparent allergic reaction to a sunscreen poor kid is like me a spontaneously com busts in the sun so I needed alternative options and wasn't getting very far on my own. . . . . . then I saw the UC posts and found home!

In the summer of 2001 I stumbled across the news group alt.support.crohns-colitis . It was very active and I got most of my initial information and support from it. A few years later someone posted a message on that news group about a new Ulcerative Colitis forum on HealingWell. I immediately checked it out but there was very little activity on it so I just forgot about it. In December 2005 I was searching on information about a clinical trial for Adacolumn Apheresis that I was about to enter. I found a thread on HealingWell from someone that was well into the trial so I finally joined HealingWell. At first I didn’t post much because I was well established on the news group. Over the years Activity on alt.support.crohns-colitis has dropped off considerable and HeallingWell has increased, so for the last few years I have been hear more that the news group. News groups have lost popularity in the last few years, especially after many internet providers have dropped them including mine. I now access my news groups through Google Groups, not nearly as good as a good news reader and a news group server.

I used Google too. Not exactly sure what words I used, but I was looking more of a discussion forum at the time to learn how others deal with this and what their symptoms are like for them. I have learned a lot and know that I am welcomed and not alone with this. I don't have medical insurance and I don't trust doctors so I needed a place where I could find alternatives. I still have my colonoscopies every 5 years to check up on things.
