Has anyone experienced side effects after 2 yrs of successful infusions? Like reactions 5 weeks after an infusion? I recently have had some troubled breathing and my face is all puffy. I have had so many tests done that all come back normal- CT sinus scan, chest xray, echocardio exam, pulmonary function test. I just don't know what could be causing this. The pulmonologist says i have underlying asmtha but inhalers don't help it and i don't see how the puffy face could be a result from asmtha?? I had a cortisone shot in my knee 4 days before this all started happening but all doctors are telling me that it's not related to that bc that should stay in the knee....anyone???

I am going tomorrow for my third remicade treatment.  It seems to be working.  Diganoised in 2005 and been hospitalized twice.

I am hoping this is the answer for me.  The only side effect I seem to have is lower back pain.  I went to my family doctor

and he says that 8% of the people who are on remicade have back pain.  I will ask my GI doctor tomorrow.

imuran 150 mil ( but hope to be taken off of it tomorrow)

colozal 750 mil  9 per day

lexapro 10mil

metformin 500 mil 4 per day

protonix 40 mil

vitimans

caltrate

remicade every 8 weeeks

Yikes, I have to have that shot in my knee very soon; did the shot work? I emailed my GI and asked if it would cause any problems since I'm on Remi, and he said it shouldn't and to go ahead and get the shot.

Hi Carol. Well the shot for my knee helped for about a week. I am actually have a knee scope done next week to see what's going on (that will be my 3rd knee surgery). But really, everyone is different w/ a cortisone shot.

I got the ok from my GI today regarding getting my remicade infusion one week post op.

When I was in the hospital in July 2005, I got ALOT of prednisone. I didn't think the cortisone shot would do anything as far as side effects. My knee doctor didnt think that the shot caused these side effects but of course he says "everyone reacts differently" and "i can't say for sure". Then my GI doctor said that he didn't think the cortisone would do this and said the Remicade wasn't the source either......

So you have been on Remicade for more than 5 years?

I've been on Remi for about 3 1/2 years. I'm doing well on it, and hate for something to cause a flare. I'm afraid the shot is not going to work either and I'll end up getting the surgery in the long run. It's so frustrating sometimes isn't it? I think it would be somewhat difficult to be a doc as everyone is so different it's hard to tell what could be causing the side effects. Good luck with the surgery, and let us know how you are doing.

I will......what exactly is your knee problem? Remicade has worked really well for me- I haven't had colitis symptoms since July 2006. That's why I wish I knew what was causing this. I am actually going to have my next Remi 9 weeks after my last, instead of the normal 8 weeks.

I was in a car accident the beginning of June, and my knee was smashed pretty good. No broken kneecap, but the meniscus is torn, and since the other side of my knee has already had the meniscus removed, he is hesitant to do the surgery right away. He thought that maybe this might help the swelling. We shall see!

My GI wants me to go to the ER get IV steroids & start remicade.
