Hey i am 14 and found out i had UC near the end of last year and am on steriods, 6mp, omeprozole and pentasa!! Just wondered if their was any1 around the same age as me tht i could talk to about it!!

I take it u have uc... do u have it the whole way round your bowle too?? If not what is yours like??!!

And i see tht u have a colonosapy (is tht how u spell it haha) soon....... i am too on the 7th of august are u nervous?? i am but have had one befor!!

Last time I had it looked at it had spread up from the rectum but not to the entire colon. I"m having a colonoscopy in a couple weeks because of pain in my left side. He thinks it may have spread to where the colon bends (under the left breast). I get pain, urgency to go, blood, mucus and joint pain/swelling. At times I get stomach pain after I eat and move to a bland diet until that passes.

Hi Megan. I am 48 and have had UC since I was 26. Mine mostly is under control except for an occasional flare. Mine is limited to the lower left part of the colon and rectum. I am on Asacol 400mg twice a day and use Canasa 1000mg every other day for maintenance purposes only. Welcome to the board and maybe someone younger will chime in eventually. Hope things go well for you with your scope. I have had a couple of them and a few sigmoidoscopes during the years myself.

I know how you feel. I've never met anyone outside of the people in the GIs office that had it or even knew what it was. I was so happy to find this fourm. It gets old having to explain it to people but knowledge is power. I had to explain it to my new boss...quite a weird conversation, but I wanted to be honest and protest myself since there are times I have to be absent due to flares. Hang in there Megan.

Hey meg, I am 22 and as far as I know I am closed to your age. I also Have been fighting since I was 5 years old. I am new to this support group as well.

Hey- My name is Lindsey and I was diagnosed around December-January. I have been hospitalized twice sense and have gone through one colonoscopy that was very definitive saying I have Ulcerative Colitis (as opposed to Crohns). I am currently on (sorry for the lack of technicality) 3 pills of Asacol twice a day, one Prevacid once a day, as well as one 6mp every day, however, my 6mp levels have just dropped and they think I may be starting a flare again SOOO im on 1.5 6mp 2 out of 7 days a week along with the 1 a day every day, if that makes sense.
I will be turning 15 in August, so basically we are the same age and I was on Prednisone for way too long as well. I have just very recently gotten rid of almost all the side effects- to be honest they were quite horrible.

I'd love to talk to you about anything you'd like! I'm no expert- I'm kinda new at this myself as well but am glad to talk!

ohh hey!!

yer i know wat you mean about the horrible side effect the big face and the spots!!! grrrrrrrrrrrr i just got rid of them and now they have got me back on steroids!!

yer i also had a colonoscopy in september of last year when i was in New Zealand i have since moved back to England and i am having another one next week coz they want to cheak for sure that it isnt crons!!
i am reallly looking forwards to tht....... NOT!!

ohh and i am turnig 15 in novermber sooo onli 3 mounths between us lol.........

Hey, Megan, my daughter has had sypmtoms of crohns since she was about 5 and she is now 26 and the mother of a beautiful baby daughter. She didn't even get diagnosed until she was almost 19! You can have a real life with these diseases. Just take it one day at a time and concentrate on taking care of you.

BTW, she refused the steroids and used to treat her bad flares with baby food, juices that we made at home in a juicer and any foods that didn't irritate. Sometimes she lived for weeks on yogurt, cottage cheese and pineapple, or mashed potatoes with a bit of salt... but she managed. I'll be thinking of you.

Hi Megan, welcome to Healingwell :) Yeah, isn't it great to be able to talk to people that actually have the same thing as you?? I know the feeling! When I joined up with HW 4 years ago, I thought I was the only one in the world that has this so I was real glad to find HW :) Oh and I already had UC for 12 years before I found HW and was able to talk to others that have it. Welcome aboard and even if we don't have many members your age, you can still talk to us!

ohhh I'd be sooo disappointed to have to go back on steroids. Man did they mess with me! There are so many flat out weird side-effects I was way more than glad to be off them. I feel like I'm finally looking better, shallow as it can be- it does feel good to look like yourself. However, it does appear that I'll be going into another flare if my 6MP levels don't go up pretty quickly. Totally know how you feel- hope the colonoscopy goes well. Eckkkkk those drinks you gotta do before hand don't even taste good to make up for how bad it feels coming out haha. =]

I on a high amount of 6mp too 50mg i think u??


I didnt have a drink befor mine i just had to eat see-though soups for a few days then when it came to the colonscopy i just went uder sadation!!

i know wat u mean about just wanting to look like yourself again.... i am soo fed up with peole saying "ohh your face has got quit big latly"...... grrrrrrrrr lol i know u dont need to remind me!!

hahaha reallyyy?? nahh. =P ohhh if I ever have to have another I'm sooo doing the clear soup diet instead!! That baby food & juice & yogurt diet looked actually quite appealing in comparison to the Prednisone. Man I sure hope for the best for you!! Totally know how it feels to look "fluffy" haha and the insane hunger 24/7 is craaaazzyyy.

Megan tiss sad when someone your age gets sick. I too was 14 when first diagnosed. Be sure to be open with your friends about your illness. I went into the state of silence. It wasn't cool. I am now 18 and still trying to explain to others how hard life can really be. As for the scope you'll do fine, the cleansing sucks but hey it all works. I have had at least 10 of them. smurf

Mmmmm i know sux to get it so young but their is loads of worst things!!

Yer one thing about UC is it is the most emmbarising and weird thing to try and explain to people lol...

I am dealing with it ok.... my mum and dad are really easy to talk to about it soo im all gud!!!


I have had it done befor but still u can neva be ready for it..... I KNOW how embaring is it when tht have to put in tha liquid talk about ackward!!

Meg, sorry to hear you have this horrible disease. Our daughter was diagnosed in Nov of 2007 and she just turned 8. The colonoscopy was how she was diagnosed - and the endoscopy. She drank the gross stuff and I drank a little of it - it's like flavored sweat. We found that once she started using the bathroom we were able to stop drinking the stuff. It was all diarrhea for months prior, anyway, so she was pretty clean inside. I feel for your parents - being the parent of a child with this disease is the worst thing I've ever been through.

Meg, I am so way NOT YOUR AGE but I was diagnosed when I was 15. And that was back in 1961. I still have UC. I managed to finish high school, then college and then a Master's degree and I was a teacher in middle school for over 30 years. It's at times a hard disease to cope with but the meds get better all the time and I hope you do well. You can/
