osmoprep...any advice

I have a colonoscopy on Monday.  Doing the osmoprep this time.  Any advice to make it go smoothly?  what to expect.  The last several times I have done the phosposoda prep, and most recently did the miralax prep.  Miralax does not agree with me, so onto the osmoprep.  Words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

To me this was the easiest of preps. But I have to warn you, by the time you are done taking all those pills, it's gonna feel like you swallowed a salt lick! Also, unlike with the phososoda which once you were done drinking it you were done going after a while. After I took the Osmoprep, I was up alllll night long. It seemed to work a bit slower on me. However, I was able to sleep during the scope and after I got home so I was able to make up for lost sleep. Just be sure to drink lots of water so you don't dehydrate yourself.

The only suggestion I can give is not to let them touch your tongue until you're ready to swallow them. I would hold each one between my teeth until I had the glass of water to my mouth. All I have to do is see a bottle of the liquid prep and I gag.

OK, thanks.  Sounds like it is not going to be fun.  I don't know why they can't coat those pills so you don't have to taste them and so they go down easier.  I don't know....make them taste like candy!!

Tell you the truth, I will much rather take the Osmoprep over the Phososoda ANY DAY! Prep is never fun but at least it can make the stuff a little more palatible yeah? :) Candy coated sounds good! Good luck on the scope and let us know what the outcome is ok?

Will do.  We are about to leave now for the hotel and start the prep....I am so excited....NOT.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.  and thanks for all of your advice.

had my scope today.  I must say that osmoprep was the easiest one I have done to date.  Since you all told me that I would be up all night, I started the prep early (1pm) and by 11 was feeling pretty empty.  Got up once at 5, and went a little bit 2-3 times b4 the scope.  That is WAY better than any other prep I have ever had. 

Good news from the scope.  Active UC found in only 26cm (down from 45).  I have very severe inflammation in my rectum, so upping my Colazal to 12 a day with the Rowasa emenas nightly.  I asked and received a rx for VSL#3DS, so will try that as well.  Now just have to wait on the biopsies.  But good news today!!  Thanks all for your help.

Congrats on your scope!!  For those who are doing this prep in the future, I found it much easier to take the pills with coca cola.  I'm sure some other sugary liquid would cut the taste as well.

Glad your scope went well. I did the osmoprep for the first time about 3 months ago. Like you, I thought it was much easier. However, I agree 100% with you and several other forum writers, start earlier than instructed. During prior preps, I drank the bottled liquid with 7UP and was done by 9PM. With the osmoprep pills, I was regrettably still up and in the bathroom after midnight.

diagnosed with UC (proctitis) to 15cm August 2001
Currently on 4 tablets of Lialda 1.2 g
1 rowasa enema nightly

We always get a hotel. That way it is only 5 minutes from the endoscopy center. Also, I don't take my kids, so there is no "interruptions" or stress from having to deal with their needs. It sort of removes all the stressors of staying home.....no phone, no kids, no dogs....And my hubby has to leave the room to get something to eat. That way he doesn't eat in front of me. All in all it is much easier that way...at least for me.

Has anyone had lingering diahhrea issues after this prep???

Interesting concept. Never thought of doing it that way!

Many kudos to you for doing something like that for yourself during a stressful time. So many women cater to those around them all of the time - many times without consciously realizing it.

I know this is a little late but a tip for anyone taking terrible tasting pills.... Coat them in PEANUT BUTTER! Seriously. I do this every time I feed my dogs medicine to get them to take it and one day I had to take some horrendous antibiotic that tasted so bad I almost vomited after swallowing it, so I decided to try the peanut butter trick... I coated them completely and I couldn't taste it AT ALL. So I do that now any time I have to take a pill that doesn't taste the best (like prednisone, for example) :)
