Vomiting with Bowel Movement

Just wondering if any of you have to throw up right before you have a bowel movement while sitting on the toilet?  I'm in a really bad flare right now.  I've been hospitalized on SoluMedrol, been on 60mg of Pred and still have urgencies esp. in the AM that have blood and mucous...  But, sometimes the pain before a bm, overtakes me and I throw up too.  Has this happened to anyone?  I also have stomach ulcers so I'm not sure if that plays a role in this or not.  Either way, a colonoscopy is scheduled for Mon. and I see surgery in my future!

That has happened to me when I had my first 2 flares which were the worst. For me I think I would throw up with the pain in my stomach right before BM. It was like the pain would peak I would throw up in a bowl whilst sitting on the loo (how nice!) and then I would have a BM. In my first flare that went on for about 3 weeks at every BM I had, it was hell. Since then my flares have never been as bad. The last one I had I felt a few times like I would throw up but didn't. It happened to my brother also, he had UC (had surgery now lives very healthy pain free and med free life). So I think it is quite common for this to happen in a flare.

that happens to me all the time.
last year during my year and a half flare and this time the last 2 months.
i have written quite a few posts about it.

the pain is so bad while im crapping that i have to have a stash of plastic grocery bags near the toilet to puke in at the same time.
my doc said its from the pain.
involuntary vomiting.

i hate it.
misery at its finest.

sometimes i get nosebleeds too at the same time from all the pressure coming outta both ends.
fun.

I think that I had somach flu once and that happened, except the other way around. I was on ther floor next to the toliet blowing chow, and at the same time, a torrent erupted from the other end. I file that under the "memories that I wish I could forget" category. That was definitely not something that I wanted to deal with considering how I was feeling at the time.

I've been doing it too lately. At first it seemed it was from the pain, but now it seems as tho my stomach is just too acidic. I hope I don't have a stomach ulcer too. Fortunately my toilet is right next to the tub so I can do both at once. What a horrible thing to have happen to us! I chew tums alot now to settle my stomach. It seems to be working.

I agree with cap'n colitis in the "memories that I wish I could forget". It's nice to come here and complain and know that I'm not alone with all my mishaps. eyes

I get the really bad pain in the stomach too and then throw up.

What is the pain from though? It's mind numbing. I didn't sleep at all last night.

I'm in a really bad flare right now, and I had to get up about twenty times last night. I tried to sleep, but the stomach pain absolutely killed all chances of that. Should I talk to my doctor about this stomach pain or just live with it? It did go away after a while the last time I had it a month ago and I didn't change anything. It seems to be back now for revenge.

Thanks everyone for replying. I'm still having throwing up issues with bowel movements. I do have stomach ulcers, so I'm sure that plays a role in it too. The cramping is so bad sometimes, it just takes over. You would think the pain, blood and mucous would be going away with 60mg of Prednisone but it's not. I was recently hospitalized and given SoluMedrol, but that hasn't helped either. I don't want to try the 6MPs. It's good to see they've helped others, but given my history and my lovely autoimmune genetic blueprint, I would rather have my colon removed and have j-pouch surgery. My Dad had it done at the Cleveland Clinic 13 years ago and is doing so great. He wished he would have done it sooner. Thanks everyone for sharing their stories on this website. My Dad would have appreciated something like this back then, but j-pouch/internet was so new. It's helpful to know there's others who understand what you're going through. Please take care...

i think we should hire someone to make handle bars for toilets.
like on the sides of the bowl just a little under the thighs/where you sit.

im tired of putting my fingernails through the palms of my hands from squeezing them so tight from the cramping and pain.
might help with the pressure and alleviate the puking.

It happened to me a few time when I was first starting out on azathioprine. I"d be really nauseous in the morning (if I forgot to have a big meal before the azathioprine) , have to go to the bathroom, and then while sitting on the toilet, the smell in the bathroom increased the nausea until I had to throw up.

Nope Megan you aren't alone, I keep a whole spare trash can with a roll of bags in it next to the toilet, it's easier to hold and aim at a solid sided object then it is to hold and aim for a limp bag when I'm feeling that bad.

Laura,

You should talk to your doctor about the stomach pain. Twenty times in the night is a lot to get up. Do you have meals with your meds? They can upset the stomach sometimes. If you're not eating enough that will cause stomach upset. I find that Tums are good to chew when my stomach bothers me, but I don't have stomach ulcers either.

I grew up east of Cleveland along the lake. I swore the factories with all their pollutants and the condition of that lake before the zebra muscles moved in are what cause my UC. My grandmother passed away from colon cancer long before the hospitals in Cleveland became among the best in the country.

Every time I decide to say something to my doc the pain goes away.. It comes in waves, and I have no clue what causes it.

Usually, well, almost since I have been diagnosed, I haven't found any way to really eat three meals a day. I just wouldn't because I would be too scared to have another accident at school and I knew I would have to be by the bathroom for three hours after eating. Last night I only got up about ten times, still terrible, but the stomach pain only woke me up a few times as opposed to the entire night. I still don't know what it is... It doesn't go away after I eat, and it doesn't really appear after I take my pills.

Today, I broke down and took imodium. I had to.. I had things to do and groceries to get and I was still having a really bad time. I got the stomach pains this afternoon, before I ate, and a long time after I took any pills. Also, in the middle of my lunch I got the stomach pains so bad I had to stop eating otherwise I would have thrown everything up. That was the end of my lunch.

Today marks only the second day since I was diagnosed in '07 that I've actually had three meals. I always just ate one a day.

I know, it's bad. But I would be at school, work, and I wanted to have a social life.

When my entocort was working about a month ago I felt awesome and even then I only had just one meal a day. Things got terrible when I tapered my entocort too fast (no one really told me..). So that's how I landed myself in this current flare.

Oh, I forgot to add..

The only pill that has ever bothered my stomach is the iron. The other pills don't make it hurt at all. I usually take them on an empty stomach before I head off to school, and I don't eat until I return home in the late afternoon.

I take my Lialda at 8 am - 2 pm - and 8 pm. I take my 3 entocort at 8 am with the Lialda.

I tried taking all three Lialda at once in the morning but there is no way my body liked that. That's how I landed in the flare before this one. I don't quite get that.

i had problems with the iron pills too, and i started taking chromagen it's sort of time released, and it didnt' bother my stomach. I was having a lot of acid and nausea when i still had UC and i started taking protonix and it really helped me alot.

iron pills actually excerbate inflammation of the large intestine.

I recently flared up after a 2 year remission...

I have had UC for 11 years and have never vomited during a flare until yesterday.  It occured just after a 2-3 hour marathon of visits to the toilet.  I finally felt like the urgency was gone so I went to lay down in bed and as soon as I laid down I got the overwhelming urge to throw up and had to run to the bathroom to vomit... I wasn't in any pain at that time so the pain didn't cause it... very strange, and I hope it never happens again!
