flare up time for me

started last week, alot of blood in bms and diarrhea 1st few days but getting less now and none 2day but still very soft, 1st day i had to go to toilet alot in morning, but since then only been going 1-3 times a day, get pain in left side of stomach any time of the day, and thats about it, but also the other day went toilet in the morning and was blood then after afternoon i went it and my bm was near prefect, any1 know why this could happen? its pretty much the same for every flare up i have apart from the 1st 2or3 i had and they were alot worst, atm im taking asacol 3x3 and asa just on 200mg still getting to right dosage and 15mg of preds since the flare up, and dont take anything else, any advice would be good?Also had the killer headache 2day prob need 2 drink more.

15mg of Pred isn't a high enough starting dose.You need to start at 40mg and taper down,otherwise you will end up taking more in the long run.That's not just my advice,but my GI's from many years ago.By "asa just on 200mg",I assume you mean Azathioprine?If so,that's the same dosage as me,I'm 15 stone in weight and it's a decent dosage at that weight.Unless you weigh significantly more,you shouldn't need more Aza than that!

As for other advice,maybe use some rectal meds?Many here swear by them,even if the inflammation reaches high up they will help with the tail end.Obviously diarrhoea will dehydrate,so the headache may well be attributed to dehydration.

ohk, yeah thats what my doc told me to do last time i saw him but dont see him until nov now, how fast would i taper down off 40mg cuz i got alot of tabz so i could do that if i wanted too, yea i mean Azathioprine, i weigh 89-90kgs dont know what that is in stone, and just got to 200mg, doc said they take awhile to work once u get to right dosage, do they just work it out on weight? yea i tryed asacol depots or watever they call them and they worked good, mite ask for some more wen i go see doc. cheers.

oh yeah i got a knee op, about 1 month away, so i dont wana be taking heaps of preds wen i have that, or it will take longer to heal?

Azathioprine can take about 3 months to kick in.I have taken Pred many times,and it always goes;40mg,30mg,20mg,15mg,10mg,5mg.That's 7 days per dose,forming a six week course.I would seek a professional opinion in terms of surgery,I'd be a little worried about Pred thinning the blood and bleeding more easily.
