anyone diagnosed with cholangitis because of UC ?

My husband is going in for an ERCP test and liver biopsy to determine why he is having symptoms of jaundice
itching, pain under rib cage, lower back pain nausea, fatigue chills vomiting.

His dr. stated sclerosing cholangitis is associated with people that have ulcerated colitis and
after researching this disease it seems to be rare not common and prognosis is grim.

Does anyone that has this or know someone can give me feedback?

I am suspected, but not yet diagnosed. Done ERCP, Liver Biopsy, been to Mayo etc. Check our www.pscpartners.org for some of the best psc info I have found.

By the way MRCP seems to be a less invasive way to dx PSC. Is this an option vs. ERCP?

Good luck and keep us posted. By the way, how old is he? Seems to be a common age window where psc emerges. Late 30's off the top of my head...

He just turned 60 in July. Diagnosed with UC in 2001. The Dr. performed a gallbladder ultrasound, mri with contrast
and an mrcp last week. None of these tests showed a blockage with stones, markers for cancer came back
negative as did biopsy with mrcp.

I have PSC and or PBC with UC....does your husband have UC?

I've not had the ERCP (refused it), but it was confirmed visually with common bile duct constrictions/beading.

I'm now on URSO which has helped get liver enzymes back to normal...
I've not had any symptoms of jaundice or itching as of yet.

What were the visual findings of the MRCP?

I feel for your husband and you if he does have it.....

Have the doctors checked him out for autoimmune hepatitis?

He does have UC. The MRCP did not show any stones or blockage. He has had blood work
for hepatitis that has been negative, but I have not questioned his Dr. about autoimmune
hepatitis which I will do so on Wed. when we go for the ERCP.

The MRCP should have showed at least the classic beading, etc. Did it not show anything??

No it didn't, that is why the dr. wants to do this ERCP and the liver biopsy. He is having all of the symptoms
that are increasing such as the itching just started about 2 weeks ago, chills, nausea, pain and others. He
has had several blood tests showing elevated liver enzymes and his bilirubium is a 7 but I don't know
what a normal range is other than the Dr. said this number was a little high.
I just pray his colitis will calm down so he can keep the appt. He has had a really bad day with it, having to run
to the bathroom several times an hr. and the cramping and other symptoms associated with UC.

How long has your husband had UC and what meds is he on at this time?

Has he had these symptoms progressively or did it hit him quickly?

I have UC and small duct PSC. Liver enzymes are kept in check with UrsoForte taken three times per day.
UC is kept managable with Asacol, but still have daily cramping. PSC and UC do tend to go together.

Mayo suspects I have small duct. How do you know for sure? Liver biopsy?

My husband has had UC for 7 years. He is on Lialda, hydrocortosone enemas, canasa and some type
of med for cramping and bloating. He is on/off prednisone. He was preparing to go on Remicade, having
just gotten his shingles vaccine and waiting for 60 days before trying Remicade. His Dr. said the maker
of Remicade stated you can start 30 days after a live vaccine but we were going to be on the safe side
and wait 60 days. Now that is all put on hold until we can get this recent episode diagnosed.

The symptoms of itching, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and jaundice with severe pain under rib cage and
lower back all came on within a matter of 3 weeks.

He is being given all of the tests and blood work within the past week. He has an excellent Dr.
that is really staying on top of these recent symptoms.
