Has anyone heard of or had the experience of using a Mesalmine or Steroid enemas during pregnancy? I am 30 weeks pregnant and having a mild flare. My doctor is talking oral predisone and I don't want to do that. My OB said that the enema would be okay. Any insight would be appreciated.

Rowasa is category "B" so it should be fine. I spoke to my RE today and she looked it up and said it was fine to do during IVF and pregnancy. Good luck and congratz on your pregnancy?

Is this your first flare in the past 30 weeks?

I used Cortifoam during my pregnancy just over 15 yrs ago and it was fine (infact, my son is quite the athlete, although I'm sure me pumping steroids in my butt while pregnant with him has nothing to do with it LOL).

Three years ago during my second pregnancy I flared 6 weeks into my pregnancy and had to use use oral steroids up until I was about 5 months pregnant and then steroid enemas up until the end of my pregnancy. My doctor told me that very little of the oral pred passes to baby so I am sure with enemas it would be even less.  My son was born healthy - no probs at all.

Thank you for the info. Yes this is my first flare. My doc and I were lowering my Asocal dose. Hopefully I will go back into remission for the rest of this pregnancy :)

Hi MJW!  I am 16 weeks pregnant and just started flaring about 3 weeks ago.  I am using cortifoam during the day and hycort enemas at bedtime along with the Salofalk tablets.  All have been ok'd as safe by my GI specialist, OBGYN and motherisk who studies the effects of drugs on pregnancy.  I hope that helps you,  it's horrible to be flaring when your pregnant.

hey, I delivered at 32 weeks flaring, bleeding the whole 9 yards. I wish my GI would have put me on Remicade I would have been able to carry to term symptom free. You should check into it. 1 infusion every 6-8 weeks. I started on it 4 months after I delivered. It has been a wonder drug.
