How do you weed out scams for work from home jobs. That feels like the only way I'm going to save my marriage.

Does ANYONE know how to get a work at home job. I'm desperate.

Sorry that I can't help you with the at home jobs.  However, I felt I would like to answer you about your husband and marriage.

I am 68 and yesterday married for 47 years.  Sounds a little like your husband has a problem understanding UC and what you are going through.  When one pardner is sick it is very hard on the other one.  I understand you have financial problems which adds to the stress.  Can you get along without you working for a while longer.  Getting into remission can take a while (I know from experience - still working on it since May).  My husband has Stage 4 lung cancer and is doing well right now.  We both support each other.  Education can help your husband understand.  I researched lung cancer and UC on the internet to learn all I could.  I am so tired most days and my husband too - we do what we can and then rest.

If your husband needs more information - have him read from this website - one sentence from the website is  " Ulcerative colitis is not caused by emotional distress or sensitivity to certain foods or food products, but these factors may trigger symptoms in some people. The stress of living with ulcerative colitis may also contribute to a worsening of symptoms".

Good luck and maybe your husband could go to the doctor with you one time and talk to her/him.  I go with my husband and it helps a lot to understand!

Thing is. He does go to the doctor with me. HE HAS to see what I'm going through.

I've been on new meds for a week and because I had no problems for a few days because of the Colonoscopy....he thinks that I should be able to do things now. He said I should be full time out there looking for a job. How do you go on interviews when it's one of the most stressful things and your stomach is acting up?

I feel like I have opportunities here to get a job, but I'm limited because of my UC. I feel like I might as well have Cancer. I'm losing my marriage to this disease and I swear surgery sounds so sweet right now.

My only other suggestions is to see your primary care doctor about helping with the emotions of this disease.  I don't know what is right for you but for me I ended up having to get a mild anti-anxiety drug to "calm me down" and help everything else in my life.  Your primary care doctor can help you with that aspect.

Good luck and a lot here do understand what you are going through!

well now i got a call from petsmart saying they want an interview tomorrow... dunno how ill make it but i said sure.


I just passed so much blood.. i havent done that since my first flare up when they wanted me in the ER. Sent a pic to my hubby and told him.. see im not making it up. He joked about making it his display pic?

My butt is on fire... i can barely touch it with tp... and my bms are still semi formed... but the blood is startin to scare me. I thought steroid enemas helped. :(

I responded to your other post. Like Elaine, I'm not sure just getting a job is going to solve the underlying problem with your relationship.

That said, my husband works for a company that's a liason between people like you who are looking for at-home business opportunities and companies that have such opportunties, so he knows what's out there. Assuming you're looking for something low-key to do at home, not selling, just to make a little money, here's his respsonse:



I would suggest looking locally for a company that allows their employees to do surveys from their home.

I'm not sure there are any where she lives...it depends on how big of a metropolis she lives in....the bigger the better her chances are. It wouldn't involve sales and would probably be low in stress.

Although I would suggest looking for a local company, there are other online "work from home" surveying opportunities, but she would want to thoroughly check them out.

Getting something along these lines that would allow you to earn a little money might take some of the pressure off your relationship; however, I think you have some hard decisions to make if your husband continues to be unsupportive and to heap more anxiety and stress on you.

I see you're taking 4 lialda all at once...I've been told it's better to do 2 in the a.m. and 2 in the p.m.

I am bleeding too sweetmelody. At first I was very concerned, but my GI doctor and the colorectal surgeon I saw last week don't seem overly concerned about the bleeding. As long as my hemoglobin is within normal limits and not dropping. Of course, they don't LIKE me bleeding as it could lead to colorectal cancer, they seem to think it is part of the disease. I was hospitalized in May for ten days. Very sick at the time with a lot more bleeding, pressure in rectum, very inflamed and high blood pressure. I tapered down the prednisone from 40 mgm to 5 mg...finally got off it and started bleeding again two weeks later. Am now back on the 20 mgm of prednisone, Colazal, 6 MP (have been on this for four years, not really keeping me in remission), Cort enemas alternately with Canasa suppositories nightly. We are going away Sunday for two weeks...have port a pot...will travel. When we return I think I am going to try seeing a GI doctor over at the University of PA Hospital in Philly. My GI doctor is pushing Remicade now. When I get anxious I take Xanax, my family doctor prescribed it. Good luck.

I think anti anxiety meds might be good. It only seems to happen now when im stressed and nervous or worried..

I called my doc just now and she said it's all consistent with a flare and if it gets worse within 3 to 4 days to call. etc.

I'm feeling so exhausted and weak and my butt is killin me... and my hubbys pushin me to be out and about.

Most of the tiredness has to be cuz of stress though.

A moderate to severe flare with loss of blood is going to cause you to be fatigued. It's starting to sound like you need to take a stand with your husband and tell him getting "out and about" and job hunting right now is the last thing you need and the pressure and stress he's putting on you is only going to make your recovery take longer. If you can't be firm with him, you should have your doctor make this clear. In fact, I'm somewhat surprised your doctor hasn't given you some limitations and guidelines.

I'd suggest starting a regular yoga or meditation practice as an alternative to anti-anxiety meds. I found they really made me groggy. I felt calmer and more centered after I started alternating a gentle yoga practice with mindfulness meditation.

When I'm flaring bad, I get really really tired -- maybe from the stress but maybe just from the difficulty sleeping at night and the general havoc that's going on in our bodies during a severe flare. In any case, I think anxiety meds might be good for you.

As for weeding out sketchy work at home job offers... this is a good read:

You should also spend time googling working from home. There are a lot of people that want to know how to avoid "work at home scams" and you can find some good info. I just looked over some google search results and they look like there's a lot of info for you out there.

Anyways, the best piece of advice I can give anyone is to stock up on Flushable Baby Wipes. If you haven't used them instead of toilet paper, you need to.

I know you are suffering, but try not to let the amount of blood freak you out too much. I have had blood pretty much every day for over 20 years, and as shocking as it might look to someone who hasn't experienced this disease, I don't worry about it. Occasionally I get anemic and have to do something about that, but for the most part the body is amazingly good as producing more of what it has lost. So try not to let the blood freak you out.
What about some kind of data entry? Hospitals are desperate for people who will do data entry or "coding" but I don't know what kind of training is needed.

Peety - can you really not worry about the bleeding.  My orthopedic surgeon won't even do a knee replacement as long as there is internal bleeding of any kind.  Doesn't that mean there are open ulcers in your colon?  YIKES!  Sorry, I was just diagnosed a couple months ago and EXPECT the ulcers to heal and bleeding to stop - hopefully soon.  I have not been anemic or have any infections or blood problems show up with tests.

I truly never ask my GI doc about this but certainly would not consider myself in remission if there was blood in my stool or anywhere it shouldn't be. 

So far looks like the Colazal and Rowasa is doing its job - doc thinks maybe another couple weeks to a month!

Diagnosed with protosigmoiditis from colonoscopy and endoscopy.  Meds - first Canasa and Colazal, then proctofoam and Colazal and now Rowasa every night - 3 Colazal during day. No "D", no cramping - formed 1 or 2 BM's - tiny blood visible.

Nearly in remission!

I was told by my GI that any more than 2 pills of Lialda is best divided a.m.-p.m.

Curious, I see that you were recently tested by your homepathic doc for gluten...didn't your GI do this?

I think you should definitely ask your doc about anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication.  My sister took Welbutrin (sp?) when she quit smoking, and the lack of stress it produced helped her get through quitting.  I'm actually going to be asking my doc about anti-depressants at my next appt in a couple weeks.  This (UC) has become too much to bear, and I think the decrease in stress will help my UC symptoms.

It may be worth repeating to your husband that the pressure he's putting on you is only ADDING to your symptoms.  Its rough on spouses.  My husband gets totally frustrated because he feels helpless, and I'm sure he gets tired of talking about UC all the time.

Maybe try to have a little give-and-take, where he doesn't bug you about jobs for a while and you won't talk about UC.  You can always come to us for a shoulder to cry on.  ;-)

How did you know I was tested for gluten?

I thought I had Celiac disease before I had a colonoscopy. I had two endoscopies to make sure I didn't.

But I don't see what that has to do with this?





I am scared of anti depressant meds... but they seem tempting right now just because I feel so worn down.

wow -- sorry you're going through such anxiety right now in addition to everything else...your husband needs to spend some time either in this forum checking things out or reading about UC in-depth.

The support and understanding you need is crucial to helping you cope and deal with this too.

Obviously you are on the younger side and newly married where some of us here have been married for a lot of years (36 yrs here) and been through a lot of this "in sickness and in health" in good times and bad etc etc.....

Adding a financial strain on top of things makes it difficult I know but it is going to be very difficult for you to work until you can get some kind of handle on this. I hope things turn around soon for you.

He actually said he's researched and stuff, but I dunno. He told me just a while ago he's just tired of hearing about it.

I don't really know how to reach him anymore... cuz everything out of my mouth just sounds the same ya know what I mean?

I'm definitely young... and it's definitely been a hard first year of marriage for us... on top of the normal first year stuff... my sickness, his lay off...everything.

I honestly feel like... if we didn't have a mortgage to pay along with our rent... we wouldn't be fighting as much and he'd be much more understanding.


I think I'm just going to have to try to grit my teeth and get through this job thing and just try to make it everyday... hopefully I can be strong enough to do it. I feel like I'm on my own really, but I dunno. I think eventually I'm going to have to cave and get counseling with him.

I'm puzzled as to why you're looking at counseling with a last resort kind of mindset. It's pretty clear from your posts that he's not grasping the severity of your situation and his behavior and attitude are making your health worse and endangering your relationship. Unless he digs his heels in and refuses to go with you, counseling could be a very wise choice and better now than when things deteriorate even further. If cost is an issue, you can usually find free or low cost services through local churches.
