Hello everyone, I'm new to this site, well posting on it anyway.

I was previously on 20mg 3x a day of Prednisone and after about 2 1/2 weeks I started to get the moonpie face and I got all bloaty and uncomfortable. I was weened (spelling?) off of it and now my doctor has put me back on it but only 10mg 1xday. He said I shouldn't have the same side effects on the lower dosage. I was just curious to know if anyone is on this dosage or has been in the past and what side effects you have/had. I had a ton more side effects previously but they didn't bother me as much as the moonpie face and bloatyness that i had all over my entire body.

     The only time I developed the moonface was when I was taking 40mgm of prednisone.  I have been on prednisone, this time, since the beginning of April.  I was hospitlalized for ten days in May..3rd thru 13th for ulcertive proctitis and high blood pressure (prednisone increases blood pressure and blood sugar, so be careful).  Slowly...very slowly, weened off the pred.  Was able to get off it completely five weeks ago...but alas!!!  Got an abscessed tooth on a Friday, no less, had to go on Cipro and even though I was taking a  probiotic, my UC symptoms returned with a vengence...bleeding and the awful feeling of having to "go" all the time.  So...now back on the prednisone, started at 20mgm but it is doing nada.  I also take the Cort enemas alternate with Canasa suppositories nightly, colazal and 6MP.  Today I upped the prednisone to 30 just to see if the bleeding can cease somewhat.  My GI is on vacation and I am going away for two weeks on Sunday....oh joy.  If this soon doesn't stop, I am seeing a specialist over at the Univ. of Pa. Hospital in Philly.  My last hope.  Don't have the moonface yet...but bet I will have it by the time I get back from the mountains.

yea it took me like i said about 2 1/2 weeks to get the moonpie face and body. i felt like a man i was so puffed up everywhere! At first the symptoms I noticed were the excessive appetite, mood swings and it gave me energy and kept me awake at night, not completely but enough to where I didn't get much sleep but would still be wide awake and bounce out of bed when my alarm went off in the morning. That part was actually helpful in making me on time for work every day. smilewinkgrin It will suck if i puff up again this time but I can deal with it. I only have to take it for a month and until the Entocort kicks in. I won't feel the most attractive but I'll survive. Thanks for the reply.

I find the side effects go away quickly as the dosage lowers... except it takes a while for the light hairs I get all over my face to fall out and go away.
I find it odd that you took the prednisone three times a day. It's always been my understanding that it should be taken all at once, in the morning, with food, to lessen the side effects. Ask about that if you ever need a higher dose again.

not on topic but about prednisone so just going to put it here, on 40mg on prednisone and been on it for 7 days, but flare up is not going away but its not getting worst, but got no urgency at all, just blood in stool but nt every day, i got pan-colitis which i just find out from doc, so i guess it takes longer to heal since its the whole intestines, does that sound right? cheers.
